Art Journal: I believe in me!

Good morning everyone …  it’s been a VERY busy week … work, housework, lessons, errands to run!

I haven’t had time to do any art journalling or scrapping this week, but I would like to share another double page that I did last Friday morning for a special challenge ….

Dyan Reaveley had set up a challenge on her group page on Facebook …. use pink, one of my figures, and the phrase ‘I believe in me’

This is what I came up with:

P9211197

I’ve  used a lot of Bubblegum pink mist … LOL So much that it took 3 days of washing and rewashing to get it off my hands!!!

I just have one of her sets so I used the body, but I decided to use my own head!!!!

P9211198

I used flowers and heart stamp for the background, and I wrote the phrase I believe in me over and over in the dress … The journalling all the way around says words about who I am …

 P9211199

With my trusty markers I wrote the phrase, and I’ve painted the nails of the hand with my red nail polish!

If you visit Dyan’s blog, you can see all the entries … some amazing work!!!

Have a great weekend everyone …!!!!

Art Journal : Fingerpuppets

Good morning everyone … what a beautiful day today … and it’s Saturday … a ME day!!!

Today I’d like to share a page that I finished earlier this week, and I’m happy to say, that I remembered to photograph photos at different stages so it’s going to be a longgggg post!

Here’s the finished pages:

P9171176

I’ve used Dylusion mists, modeling paste, a circle graph mask [SC], stampin’ up stamps [the children], my pens & markers, & Liquid Masking film.

P9161167

I started out with a blank page where I traced Dimitris little hands … if he had had his way I would have had his little hands on all my pages!!! LOL

 P9161168

I cut a circle on a piece of cardstock to have a template and I positioned the stamped images [archival ink] of the children  where I wanted them … the stamps are from a 1999 Stampin Up set called Kids at Play which I bought donkey years ago!!!

P9161169

I then drew a border and made a banner … you will see that the slight stamping mistake on the right hand does not show in the final page …

 P9161170

Next step was to cover all the parts I wanted to protect with the Liquid masking film … I applied a generous coating with a paint brush …

 P9161171

Letting it dry completely …

P9161172

I misted with a few Dylusion colours … and let it dry ….

 P9161173

I used the circle graph stencil first as a mask, then with the modeling paste …. as you can see in the end result the paste adsorbed the colour below … to be honest I don’t know if it would have stayed white if I had let the mist dry overnight ….

I then removed the film and started colouring in and doodling …

P9171177

I wrote Have Fun in the banner …

 P9171178

I doodled the border around … adding colour!

 P9171179

I love the idea of the finger puppets …

  P9171181

Such a fun page … and I hope you’ve enjoyed the step by step … as you can see the liquid masking film protected even the stamped areas …

Have a good weekend everyone!!!

Art Journal: You can’t teach a frog to fly!

Something to share with you … it’s a nice story if you are in a rush or not bothered just scroll down to view my page!

Once upon a time, there lived a man named Clarence who had a pet frog named Felix. Clarence lived a modestly comfortable existence on what he earned working at the Wal-Mart, but he always dreamed of being rich. "Felix!" he said one day, hit by sudden inspiration, "We’re going to be rich! I’m going to teach you to fly!"

Felix, of course, was terrified at the prospect. "I can’t fly, you twit! I’m a frog, not a canary!"

Clarence, disappointed at the initial response, told Felix: "That negative attitude of yours could be a real problem. We’re going to remain poor, and it will be your fault."

So Felix and Clarence began their work on flying.

On the first day of the "flying lessons," Clarence could barely control his excitement (and Felix could barely control his bladder). Clarence explained that their apartment building had 15 floors, and each day Felix would jump out of a window, starting with the first floor and eventually getting to the top floor. After each jump, they would analyze how well he flew, isolate the most effective flying techniques, and implement the improved process for the next flight. By the time they reached the top floor, Felix would surely be able to fly.

Felix pleaded for his life, but his pleas fell on deaf ears. "He just doesn’t understand how important this is," thought Clarence. "He can’t see the big picture."

So, with that, Clarence opened the window and threw Felix out. He landed with a thud.

The next day, poised for his second flying lesson, Felix again begged not to be thrown out of the window. Clarence told Felix about how one must always expect resistance when introducing new, innovative plans.

With that, he threw Felix out the window. THUD!

Now this is not to say that Felix wasn’t trying his best. On the fifth day, he flapped his legs madly in a vain attempt at flying. On the sixth day, he tied a small red cape around his neck and tried to think "Superman" thoughts. It didn’t help.

By the seventh day, Felix, accepting his fate, no longer begged for mercy. He simply looked at Clarence and said, "You know you’re killing me, don’t you?"

Clarence pointed out that Felix’s performance so far had been less than exemplary, failing to meet any of the milestone goals he had set for him.

With that, Felix said quietly, "Shut up and open the window," and he leaped out, taking careful aim at the large jagged rock by the corner of the building.

Felix went to that great lily pad in the sky.

Clarence was extremely upset, as his project had failed to meet a single objective that he had set out to accomplish. Felix had not only failed to fly, he hadn’t even learned to steer his fall as he dropped like a sack of cement, nor had he heeded Clarence’s advice to "Fall smarter, not harder."

The only thing left for Clarence to do was to analyze the process and try to determine where it had gone wrong. After much thought, Clarence smiled and said…

"Next time, I’m getting a smarter frog!"

I thought it was a wonderful story, and how often as teachers have we tried to ‘teach a frog to fly’ … not everyone has wings, and even if they have wings they may be afraid of heights … we should be helping our students to maximize their potentials ….

This is my whole thought process behind this page:

P9171183

Dylusion mists, masks, stamping, doodling!

P9171184

The numbers mask is a Craft Workshop, and the stamps are from the Pondering Petunia set …

 P9171185

The alphabet stamps are Studio G …

 P9171186

 P9171187

Right side!

I hope I haven’t bored you all … but WHY I teach has been on my mind these last few days with the start of the new year …

Happy Nameday to all that celebrate today: Sofia, Agapi, Elpida  & Pisti …

I’d like to show you a page that I finished today to express my feeling for this day!

P9171188

I started this page last night but it all came together this morning …

I’ve used: Gesso, Dylusion Mists, Artful ladies stamps, Pondering Petunia stamps, Studio g Alphabet stamp set, some yellow guash, black pens 0.3 & 0.8, and white paint marker, gel medium, glossy accents.

P9171193

I’ve disected my Pondering petunias & artful ladies to create my characters … colouring them in with Dylusion mists … I’ve used some glossy accents to highlight some elements …

 P9171194

By spraying onto wet gesso, and then dabbing a bit, I was able to get that effect behind the HOPE character …

And here are some close ups:

Sept. 15th Sketch Challenge @ Get Creative

Ahhh, so good to be back in our routine … and God knows how much I love a great sketch … and here’s another fabulous one created by Melenia!!!!

Isn’t it just fab???

Well here is my take on it:

P9141156

Another layout for my 2008 England trip … I think it will take a couple of years for me to get thru all the photos I’ve printed out!!!

 P9141157

I’ve used modeling paste and a stencil to create the circle … and have used elements from Graphic 45 to decorate!

 P9141158

I’ve used some shimmers to add a bit of glitter and dull down the colours!

 P9141159

Here’s a side view so that you can get an idea of the texture!

You have to go over to the Get Creative Blog, and see more amazing layouts … and don’t forget the winner of the Sketch challenge returns as get designer in November … so looking forward to seeing what YOU make!

Art Journal: Dimitris Rizos @3

Amanda Jones over at the Studio challenges has  a number challenge for Sept 2nd …

This is what Amanda is challenging us to do, she says ‘It’s my birthday! I’m 29 for the 5th time! Create a page using numbers as a main element – a title, subject, design feature, whatever works for you.’

So this is my take on it:

P9101140

Our sweet Dimitraki turned 3 this year … and what a great way to keep that alive but for his little hands … he was so willing to have me trace them in my book, that I have them on another double page too!!!!

I remembered to take a few photos along the way so here we go:

P9081132

Once again, I new what I wanted to do, so I masked off the outer parts of the pages which would be my border, and well as the hands using once again the Liquid Masking Film …

…. and to answer my friend Marie’s query, this is a liquid that is painted over the area that you want to mask off … You let it dry, and then do whatever you want to the page … it doesn’t seep thru …

When done, you just take it off … it’s turned into a latex film that just comes off …

 P9081133

I then added my Dylusion mists …

 P9081134

Next step was using modeling paste and a mask to do the numbers …

P9081136

I then sprayed some more colour and added some TH gear masks … Once it was all dry, I started to take off the outer masking …

 P9081139

and the liquid masking film …. Next step to finish off the doodling and more painting it … and that’s it!!!! I added his impish face … and viola!!!

P9101145 The left page ….

  P9101146

The right page!

And lots of close ups!!!!

P9101141

Thank you for dropping by!

Art Journal: Days are too short!

Ahhhh so good to be back in Athens close to all my scrap crap!!! LOL

I went to Plaisio and bought Liquid Masking Film to play with, and I must say I’m happy with its use …

Here is my finished page and then I’ll show you a couple of the steps …

P9081126

I’ve used Dylusion mists, Artful lady stamps, Sakura Micron to doodle, my pilot white permanent pen, as well as TH picket fence distress marker which is MAGIC with distress inks / water based mists like the Dilusions!!!

P9051118

I first stamped my image with archival ink … then I covered it with a generous coating of the masking film using a paint brush … be warned the paint brush never really cleans up afterwards …  I also added a free loose border around …

 P9051119

Then I started spraying with my Dylulions …

 P9061125

Once I was satisfied with the colours … I took off the latex layer carefully … So I could doodle in my ‘white’ spaces as I pleased!

Here is the finished left side!

P9081130

Here is the finished right side …

P9081131

I love this quote which I had found on pinterest a  while ago!! I used 0.1 & 0.8 Micron pens & my pilot white to write it …

Here are some closeups …

P9081127

the white swirls are done with the Picket fence distress marker …

 P9081128

 P9081129

I love how she turned out … I used a lot of zentangles and whisper markers to cover her in … 🙂

Well I hope you’ve enjoyed this entry, and hope you find time to be a bit creative this weekend!!!

Art Journal: I’ll hang you upside down!

Good morning everyone … well I’m finally back it Athens, and go into work this morning, so my summer holidays have come to an end.

I’ve had a lovely time on Naxos, and I’m happy to say, that August has also been a creative month …

So I have another art journal page to share today, and another one to photograph as well …

Continuing with the zentangled hand theme … here is one of Sofia!!!

Once again, this was done with the most basic of supplies … and I must say that I have totally enjoyed making these pages … just gouache water colours … and my pens …

P8311016

Here is a photo of my temporary work area!

P8311017

A photo  of the work in progress …

P8311019

The hand … again, real nail polish for the nails …

The title translated into English reads I will hang you upside down … she’s a little imp, and is forever trying to pull one over me, and making fun of me … so I usually threaten her with his expression!!!

Close ups!

The Craft Garden September Challenge

Have a happy month everyone …

This month’s challenge:

Welcome to September

Michaelmas Day is on 29th September celebrating St Michael – patron saint of seafarers

Your challenge this month is to take your inspiration from W A T E R

and your prize is this selection of crocheted flowers and trims.

As always entries are limited to a maximum of 3 projects in any month and I would request that you only enter a maximum of 4 other challenges with your project entered here.

This was such an easy challenge for me, as I knew right away about which ‘waters’ I wanted to scrap about …. I have been very fortunate to travel to Zakynthos and to go in a little boat ride to see the Kyanu Caves … accessible only by water …

Here is my take:

P7291896

Some close ups:

P7291900

I used only 2 sheets of cardstock and one pattern paper as I didn’t want to take the focus off the photos.  I doodled a little frame around the photos & I coloured it in with my Sakura starbust pens to pick up the colours in the ribbon …

 P7291902

I placed this really funky ribbon that I found locally over the photo to add a bit of colour and to mimick the waves …  tore my papers and inked them to give a wave effect too, and added a bit of journalling under the last paper … P7291899

I also misted a bit of gauze in blue and white, to give it dimension, adding quickutz diecuts, some Doodlebug design cardstock stickers, and Prima alphabet stickers for the title!

Funnily enough when this goes live, I should also be on the waters returning back to Athens after an amazing month!

So why not check out the blog now to see the other fabulous work from the DT Team?
