Here is the layout I was telling you about … journalling reads:
I was named after my maternal grandmother, Eleni Dimitriou Margariti [1903-1990]. She was especially happy when I was born as I would not only be ‘η Ελένη της Σοφιάς’ but ‘του Δημητρίου’ as well. This is a family tradition that has been carried out for generations in Apiranthos, Naxos. I think it’s brilliant that we can trace the names Eleni and Sofia back 5 generations now!!!
My nameday is May 21st.

I’d like to introduce my grandmother Eleni to you today … well in the photo she’s with my grandpa Vasili. A while back I had done a page about my name, and how I share it with Grandma … I’ll scan it so that you can see it. Anyway, what I’ve recently discovered is that I get my scrap gene from Grandma Eleni as well. In 1971 4 of her 5 children had moved far away from her. One was off at university, and the other 3 were married and had families of their own in Canada. She created the frame that you see below and had written verses on the back as a legacy to her children. It was so moving discovering this over the summer. My mother was moved to tears as she had never realised what was behind the frame. My grandmother suffered from Altzheimer’s and when we finally returned to Greece in 1985, Grandma didn’t recognise any of us. She passed away in her sleep in 1990. So this was quite a moment to see in her trembling handwriting the poem that she had written. I plan on scrapping this for my heritage album.
New Beginnings!!!
I know that start Monday I will be busy again … [first day of school] but I’m hoping that I will get in this habit!
