>>3242506Hey thanks man.I did use refs but I didn't try to copy the images, I constructed the shapes with the refs as a guide, so they aren't exactly the same as the refs I used.Reason for doing it like this is because I want to understand the shapes and hopefully make it easier to draw and design them without relying too much on references, hopefully it works out.As for the paper, it's toned paper I bought at an art supplies store which I draw on with pencil and a white pastel pencil for highlighting, it was a bit expensive but afterwards a worthwhile investment.I really enjoy drawing on darker paper, it adds a lot of depth to your drawings when you add the highlights.Though I am still not confident enough to draw bigger, probably one of my biggest flaws is that I keep making stamp-sized drawings.

>>3243099>>3243126There's no comparison between these two drawings. One sketch is a expressionistic statement and the other is an anatomical study, you can't apply the same blanket judgement.
hi /ic/ how are my gestures? i asked about this a while ago, and now put forth in some *real* practice.

what are these kind of soft, big paper sheets called?
does anyone know a quick way to get the tablet back after you get that annoying 'tablet driver was not found' bug?
>>3243159smooth newsprint
>>3243183get the task manager, look for the last tab on the right (it should be called services, not sure what it is in english), open services, look for the tablet, then restart it in there. if that doesnt work, only restarting will do the trick.
How do i get these smooth gradients in traditional media?
Does anyone have that website link that has a long list (like a hundred or so) of patreon users content that you could download for free? It was posted here a year or 2 ago (maybe less) and I don't remember what it was called.

Okay /ic/ real talk. Why our board doesn't have mascot NGMI-chan? Not some idolshit whore, but real NGMI-chan designed by /ic/ hivemind.
Didn't we had that fat shirtless ginger? though I prefer an /ic/ with no meme faggottry
Our board-tan is glorious enough as it is.
>>3242958Seconded
4chan was so simple even in 2009. I miss it.
>>3242958third. Even as someone from /a/, im sick of all the try-hard weebs giving everything they do an anime mascot. If america produced the same things as the japs, then whats our individual identity? Its like if south park started as an anime (dont post the lets fighting love)
Is there anyway to protect me from a Patreon artist? I’ve donated over $2000 to her/him over the last 4 months for the reward tier and I haven’t even gotten a single reward yet. I understand it’s a donation but when I send $450 a month to receive a reward and I don’t get it. I feel like my money is being stolen more or less.

is it possible to draw high quality anime/manga style shit PURELY from imagination, with zero references? if so, then how do you get to that level?im talking about at least just static, non-moving pictures. is it possible with animation as well? post your thoughts/tips/etc.

What's the best anatomy book you guys can recommend?
>>3242659It depends on what you want it for. Are you a sculptor/3d artist or a 2d artist? Are you drawing gore where you'll need a more medical understanding or do you just need the basics?
Morpho: Anatomy for Artistscome out in June in english
>>3242659Anatomy for Sculptors is very complete.Another thing I really like is the app 3D Anatomy For the Artist by Catfish Studio. It costs 13€ but it's great.
>>3242659human anatomy for artists by ELIOT GOLDFINGER, seriously, best underrated anatomy book. it's recommended by Hampton in his video lessons.
Meh. I think new artists should start learning anatomy through different means than books For one, i rec getting this app called ArtPose(pic). Its an ecorche 3d model that comes in 60 poses with a moveable camera that was developed by the japs. Also, a lot people know how to place muscle, but not how they move. If you want to know how muscles looked flexed vs unflexed, just watch a bunch of workout vidshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGo4IYlbE5ghttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IODxDxX7oi4https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTWO2th-RIYhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5SKBRXAR1Qhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0qC1k0Zi6kBut if you really need a book, >>3243121 is the be all end all, and i hear it rec'd a million times. So i dont see how it could be considered underated.

>>3238558I'm kind of wondering this myself. How does one go about practicing this form of "sakuga"?
>>3242270lol, guys expanding and contracting as he takes his stepsOverall thou I like it
Although I know that this is only tangentially related to /ic/ I still think it might be worth having a thread about it: How does one tell a good story? Most people who want to draw their own comic put all of their efforts into practicing their drawing skills but don't know what to do once they have to come up with a rough script. This thread is there to fix that. Let's talk about storytelling, writing in general, helpful resources and more.Personally I'm curious about which literature on the subject you guys consider the most helpful. So far I have only read Invisible Ink by Brian McDonald and found the concept of the "armature" of a story quite insightful.
>>3242009if they're not emoting with the wings unless you use them like arms, you're not being visually imaginitiveor make it a mix of both. have some who do and some who don't or maybe they can swap
>>3242009I'm a perfectionist too. Just get over it, pick one. There's a 50-50 chance you pick the better choice.
>>3242337Never thought of it in terms of odds. That actually makes things easier, thank you.>>3242030aaaaaaaaaand that's something I really need to work on!
>>3239510Also wondering about this. I've heard very mixed opinions, ranging from great to terrible
What's most important is character. Much more so than story. Story should be a slave of the character.
Got a confession that's art related or affects your art? Need to get something off your chest and maybe get advice on it? Post here. This thread is being made to give advice and keep blogposts contained.
>slowly start drawing less>find my style stagnant and too obviously anime inspired from weeb days>experiments with a few toony drawings to shake things up>still not drawing much>whenever I do draw regardless, it tends to be in a simplified style because fanart>stop drawing almost completely for about 2 years>tries to get back into art>toony and simplified has taken over, can’t draw old style>friends comment they prefer my more detailed/realistic drawings>can’t copy old style because at this point the art is so old it looks cringeyHow do I fix this? I can’t get anything past a sketch anymore because it all isn’t right.
>>3242833just be like the dog u posted
Just try not to promote my picture, you bastards, just try. Oh how I hate you all. I lack words to describe how I hate you and how I hate your tacky, crude and malformed tastes. The pointless fantasy without a pinch of imagination in it, the mouthbreathing pantsshitting toons standing in conventional hercules poses, overdone and overblown, proudly bearing the CG stigma like the leper proudly showcases his rotting and fetid ulcers while shaking the can. With none of your characters quickly slapped out of brushstroke samples I want to sit down and talk, no landscape crudely woven from stale ideas about what "soulful" and "fantasyish" I ever want to walk into. I hate your originality contests and I hate your fucking cliques.I hate your sycophant friends. But most of all I hate just how many there is of you. Cockroach infestation who caught on to the cg art fad from their social media feeds without a jot of artist in you. The people who promoted that made sure you've set your brute minds on that path with all the cubicle motivationals to come with it. I hate.
>>3233508painting, like the physical kind is like a big blind spot for me, basically everything i'm good at naturally aside from painting, even watercolors i'm fine at, it's just like ink more or less, but acrylic or oil, forget about it
