Does it even count as a "difficult game" if it suddenly spikes at the last stretch, after being really fair and well-designed for the 90% of it?
Because that's the frustrating thing about Ninja Gaiden, the first 5 stages aren't even hard, you can practice and breeze through them the first time you play it. But then stage 6 hits pure bullshit, with the boss checkpoint being a final cruel joke by the developers. It almost ruins the whole experience of an otherwise awesome game.
If you fixed the worst parts of it, like the infamous 6-2 hallway, I'd call it nearly perfect.

Games that are only difficult for one stage/boss are the worst. It's boring if you're looking for a challenge and it's a brick wall if you're not.
>>
>>4452146
You are right, those two fixes would essentially transform the game. It grinds my gears that I still can't beat the thing without placing a single savestate in 6-3.
>>
I'm going to watch how to beat this boss on you tube and then kill him because jfc
>>
>>4452193
Practicing how to beat him with savestates, then starting the game over and doing a clean run, is how the cool kids do it.
>>
Remember that PEDOPHILE FAGGOT who got salty and upset over a hack that fixes the massive fault with the boss checkpoint and convinced the FAGGOT KEKOLD romhacker to pull it?

Pic related is now 20 years old.

How does it hold up today?

Where does it stand among all time great games, or at least all time great FPS?

You prefer a console FPS without a N64 controller so that it's less precise?
>>

True... It's like the difference between Tim Burton's Batman's, and Christopher Nolan's Batman's.

I never get n64 emulators working right. Fucking mess they are.
>>
>>4451885
Console FPS all have autoaim anyway, you don't need to be "precise".

Anyone know about this? This video was recommended to me on YouTube. I think it's fascinating. It's about a lost Nintendo Arcade Game called "Sky Skipper" from 1981. It's like documentary length. It's got Billy Mitchell and Walter Day from Twin Galaxies in it. The video has less than 20,000 views, and I'd never watched this guys channel or heard about this game before. I think you'll really enjoy it.

Really amazing stuff. I wish there were more people out there this passionate about preservation.

I prefer the guy's site (skyskipperproject.com) to the video. You can really appreciate his excitement to have located what may very well have been the only existing cab right there in NoA's headquarters and to be invited to go document it and making a trip of it really must have been awesome.

I've got a barely used V-Saturn and CRT with a stack of Saturn games to play. Which should I play first? Did I pair my beer well with it? Also, Saturn game recommendations for $30 or less.

God damn it's nice to hear sound design like that in a modern game. I tried out Guardians of the Galaxy for the first time today, and while it seemed like a solid enough game, the sound package was horrible. Quiet, unmemorable sound effects, awful multi-line conversations that go on for way too long and have nothing to do with what's actually happening, and generic orchestral film-score drivel during the modes.

I was at two locations tonight and played an excellent Williams' Sorcerer at the first one, and the difference between it and GotG was night and day.
>>
>>4452126
On a similar note, one thing I notice in the LCD games that aren't TNA is that the graphic design is questionable. The visuals look like something put together for a high school project in powerpoint.
It doesn't really matter to me, but it makes me wish pinball was more popular so that manufacturers could afford to put a little bit more money into the LCD animations. Maybe they're still figuring that stuff out, I don't know. JJP PotC LCD animations look modestly good, but the rest not as much. Is it just me?
>>
>>4441909
No it's allowed to be -discussed- here, because /tg/ is more about group play and /toy/ is more about collecting.
>>
>>4446167
3D Pinball Space Cadet is a classic. You're just being a contrarian.
>>
>>4452130
The potential for the new screen displays is enormous, but no one has utilized it yet. Just imagine all the different animations/fonts/visual effects you could use to display and announce different features. About GoG again, I don't know if it's code that will be updated later, but there are times when a message is displayed and it's literally just plain white text on a black background. When the DMD is much more appealing then your new technology, there's a problem.

That being said, while it's still not anything mind-blowing, Star Wars is the best use of the screen yet. The idea of the display being your cockpit with information displayed on the fold-out targeting computers is great, and the movie clips and scenes are integrated very well, particular the "hyperspeed" scenes. It also might be the best Stern, imo. Either that or AC/DC, Metallica or Star Trek.

I dunno man, maybe people aren't willing to give any kind of chiptune music a chance if it's not done in Famitracker.
I still prefer Rushjet1 and Kulor Research Labs though.
>>
>observing that modern "8 bit" "artists " fail to capture the spirit of 8 bit music is trolling and worthy of deletion

I don't get it. I'm just commenting that i like 8 bit music but think all these dumb fad kids trying to ""recreate"" it are obnoxious
>>
>>4451610
exactly. Btw 8bit remix trend in 2010's youtube was quite neat back then
>>
>>4451610
A lot the artists that contributed to the 8bit music power are OG artists from that era. You even have tappy (the guy who original composed the metal gear theme) pitching in there.

You're just being a nostalgia fag and because it's new it can't be good.

Is there any way to fix the audio on this thing. It's really harsh/sharp & I'm just about done with it. Everything else is perfect, which is a shame.

Why no one ever talk about this series?
From a technical standpoint it's still beautiful.
Great story and gameplay.

My dad bought Red Sun back when it was new, I don’t know how far he made it but I never got past the stage where you have to protect a bunch of merchant ships.

Let’s turn this into a general PS1 space game thread, has anyone played pic related? It’s a Namco game but localized only in Europe I think. I played a demo of it and it seemed pretty fascinating.

I've played all three, Red Sun I actually bought from a toys r us in a rainy night on the way home from school.

Red Sun is av fantastic game, not the strongest story, but the gameplay is perfect.

Love the arena, took forever to beat the last few with max score.

Try it with cheat codes, some of those late game weapons were outstanding

>>
>>4449908
fuck off with that meme, there isn't any difference in input lag between a pi and an emulator running on a pc. A pi is literally a linux pc it doesnt magically start lagging because its little. Just because you're too stupid to figure out how to use one of the emulators that isnt a test build doesn't mean the thing is laggy.
>>
>>4450687
>easier to get into
>less expensive
>pisses off vr

I don't emulate as a rule, but it is great
>>
>>4450880
this x100. People just need to get over the fact that they are terrible at games. I brought the pi over to someones house and we played streets of rage 1 ( a game my friend grew up with as a kid) and he didn't bitch about input lag. That's how i know emulator lag/pi lag is a meme. I'm not saying it's nonexistent. I'm saying it's not a big deal or at all as terrible as original hardware kiddies make it out to be.

this. for gta2, avoid the psx port at all costs. lots of content were cut for it, and the game is set during daytime because psx couldn't handle the lighting effects. it's an inferior experience.

I only played one called gta London
>>
>>4451919
Is it really on Dreamcast? Is the port good enough?

One of my favourite things about Diddy Kong Racing was the exploration, like finding hidden keys without the pressure of being against a time limit. At times it felt like Mario 64 on wheels.

I've never seen this done since and I want it to make a come back. Diddy Kong Racing 2 when?
