What a strange and melancholic journey
>kill fucking RoboNope
>>4449585>dies for a cause>Triggies think this is bad
>>4449585>I couldn't keep track of the timelinesNot the same Robo.
>>4448314I said it was a worse written story but I still think it's pretty good, actually it's great. Just very rough around the edges. Not a greatest of all time obviously but its high up there
Enjoyed this game quite a bit, great soundtrackFavorite charactor - ALL CAPS GUYLeast favorite - that faggot from the fishing village
do you love dark savior?
>>4450469Overblown nonsense because they changed cigarettes into chocolate, doesn't effect the game at all and you wouldn't even know the difference if it weren't for people always screaming about it every time the game is mentioned
>>4451543since when does /vr/ support censorship? not only does it take away from the setting but it also screws the entire plot being that the main events revolve around garian murdering a child while drunk>>4451516she's a massive cunt. tracy a cute
>>4450493i think everyone understood the jalapeno juice was alcohol. it just makes it a bit more exotic.as for evilsizer's mask, i don't know what you mean, it looked like that in the european version.
>>4452184>as for evilsizer's mask, i don't know what you mean, it looked like that in the european version.no, in all western versions it was completely blank, faceless. in the japanese version it has holes and eye sockets and all that. He was also named Johnson which is pretty close to Jason.Still don't get what that weird wheelchair is referencing though, such a bizarre design
>>4451597Nobody supports censorship, but it was two decades ago in a very different time and they felt it would better appeal to the sensibilities of their western consumers. It's irrelevant because it's so minor and has zero impact on the game at all.If you told me they're re releasing a version of the game today with certain things censored I'd be as angry as anybody. I really don't care about cautious business choices that they made 20 years ago unless it was somehow game changing.
What exactly makes this game so good?
>>4452124Earthbound is the original "Hey guys I made a game with retro aesthetics!" game
>>4452124Never listen to people who call games memes
>>4450419You had it right the first time baby dick
>>4449591Nothing, it's not that good
suikoden I and II
Are there any pachinko games that take actually make use of the video game medium? You know, doings lots of crazy stuff that can't be done in real life and making it into more of an actual game.It seems like there's so much potential here, because it's fun to start with, but it seems like there's a lot that can be done, too. See pinball games like alien crush.Sexy Reaction is super fun with lots of tits and explosions, but is there anything else worth checking out?
>>4450829I wonder if our resident Nichibutsu fan will chime in.
>>4450831I remember a very informative thread of his.I got into their mahjong games as a teen, lured by the titties, and at first thought they had some licenses. I hadn't realize until then how much of a passion they had for plagiarism.
>>4450829Jesus they ripped off Bastard. how fucking weird.
Pachipara/Pachinko Paradise,at least Pachipara on PS2 had a story mode with free roam and stuff.
>>4452256this looks pretty fun! Thanks for the tip, anon.
X or 3, /vr/?
>watched elajjaz run 3 a few weeks ago>he was playing the dotemu version through an android emulator
>>4450385Yes, I know, but these control restrictions require that the level design isn't as intense as it could've been. It's still ok tho, once I give the series times I'm sure I'll enjoy it more.
>>4450641I like how the actual game looks, but that artwork is really amateurish.
>>44500432Also, is getting a Neo Geo AES the best way to play Metal Slug, short of delving into Superguns and Arcade PCBs? I know the series has been ported a ton, but a lot of versions seem pretty spotty in terms of running as the arcade game would, which really starts mattering to me now that I'm very keen to do 1CC runs.

Its my first time truly getting into an Ultima game. I played a bit of some of the earlier series and a lot of Underworld a long time ago, but I've been craving an RPG and I've heard VII is one of the best. The problem I'm having is navigating the world. The map that came with the GoG version has all the places labeled in runes, and if I try and find a map online with the towns labeled, what I get is a bunch of maps with everything possible spoiled on the space provided. I don't want to know where in the forests I'm going to be jumped, I just want to be able to tell where I'm going. I'm used to grid mapping with games like M&M3, so this is different for me by quite a bit. Does anyone have a link to a map that isn't spoiler-ridden, or any tips for in game navigation?
>>4450682Personally, I can't stand the interface/controls. Otherwise a decent game.
>>4450680nigga who fucking cares
Did you know you can escape Trinsic without getting the password or even talking to anyone without enabling cheats? (works in Exult, likely doesn't work in original game)
>>4452339The question isn't whether Ultima7/Exult is broken but whether it is wise to break it.
>>4452341Yeah, I broke out, got the Hoe of Destruction, got the deed to the ship from British and went straight to the Isle of Fire.Going to see how much I can break the world.
I like reading about ideas that finally were ditched for lack of time, for example in Chrono:>Aoki: In a typical RPG, when an event scene begins you lose control of your character and the computer takes over, and the player has to just sit there and watch things unfold. The result is that if 100 people play the game, that scene will turn out the same way everytime for all of them. But what if players could freely control their character during scenes, talking to different people and steering the conversation in different directions? Then the narrative in that event could unfold in a variety of ways, depending on the individual player.>Tokita: To make that possible, for Chrono Trigger we’ve instituted a system where you can move your character around during scenes, even when an NPC is talking to you.>Sakaguchi: This is called the “ATL” system.>Kitase: Amongst the developers, its also known as the “Active Time Event Logic” system.>Sakaguchi: Imagine a play on stage. If you were free to move around during the performance, you’d be able to go up and talk to the performers during scenes. That’s what you can do in Chrono Trigger, and what makes it different from other RPGs. You’ll be able to influence the development of the scenes as they’re happening. To give one simple example, if you decide you want to meddle with the scene and you go to talk to one of the characters, they could get angry: “Don’t interfere!!”I wonder if there are webpages about this subject.
>>4450015The irony is palpable.
>>4450012>framed goku drawing
>>4450104how?
>>4450012The x slash and some other descriptions and help stuff alluded to this in battle even.
Ultima VIII was originally planned to be a dramatically different, larger, and more expansive game. Richard Garriot has said that at least 3 more months were needed to complete the originally intended version of the game.Ultima VII Part 2 was originally intended to have a completely different second half where Armageddon never happens and you visit like 3 more city states. The ending was also supposed to be completely different where the lost serpent thing would have been revealed to be the actual island itself.
my brother maintains that ultima was the superior franchise but i disagree, wizardry had far better games later in its lifespan whereas ultima stumbled to the finishwhat do you guys think?
>>4451620Wizardry 5
>>4451685>>44516417 is my least favorite Wizardry. It's missing all the punch and instead frustrates with nonsensical puzzles and annoying NPCs.It might have been interesting with a smaller world but it overstays its welcome for far too long.
>>4451620I got into Ultima with 4; its morality system is unique among games, period. Its like hasn't been seen before or since. That alone makes it worth playing through at least once. It also sets the stage for much of the remainder of the series. I would start there.
I don't know where to ask so might as well ask here.I started to play Legend of Grimrock recently and I think I messed up with my party because I made 3 fighters and one mage.Since you can only use spears or throwing weapons from the second row I ended up manually switching character 1 and character 3 places in the group by mouse. This is messed up. Is there some other way to do this or at least use some keyboard command for that?
>>4450820>kill mages with a lazerM&M?
Finished System Shock 2 a little while ago so I'm feeling brave enough to take this one on. Any words of wisdom?
>>4452317Stealth is fun but don't try and be a total pacifist. Treat it like an option and not mandatory. Also, if you want to play on hard, do Realistic instead, it's much more balanced.
Put as much skill points into swimming as possible.
>>4452317Just realised this came out in 2000 please leave me alone mods

So what was it with the whole prehistoric/dinosaur/caveman/Jurassic theme in pop culture back in the 90s, specially with vidya. At the top of my head I can name;>Bonk/PC/FC-Genjin series>Chuck Rock>Joe & Mac>Humans>Big Nose>Tail of the Sun>Dino City>Dino LandEven Mario jumped into the dino fad in SMW and some games like Chrono Trigger, TMNT:TIT and Live a Live had dino/caveman parts or characters in them. My ex-g/f said there were big palaeontological discoveries that time but still, it was kinda ridiculous
>>4451857Not retro.
>>4452168Dinosaurs are one of the most retro things in existence.
I think it's mostly just the fact that some kids realy love dinosaurs. Also you forgot Prehistorik Man.
>>4452168Joe and Mac was worth the craze, which was/is awesome to begin with.
>>4451756Loved those Joe and Mac games in the arcade!
no 50hz pal shit for me thanks
>>4452174Exactly. Even in PAL land, a PAL SNES is worthless junk. You'd be an idiot to not get an NTSC one, or at least modify one to play NTSC games.
>>4452196>not modding his consoles to play both PAL and NTSC games over PAL60pathetic
JAP/PAL version with purple switches is the real patrician taste
>>4447113stop posting any time

>>4446519Bruce Willis is very sexy.
>>4452287>>>/lgbt/

>>4446774nice buzzwords shit skill.
>>4452303You just did the same thing he did.
Hello I read here on /vr/ the other day that some of you used to buy stuff from japanese people. Where do you get to interact with these people? i'd love to buy stuff like a Famicon and some games for it.
>>4448119I'm not Gramps, thanks for being so paranoid you have to blame anything you don't like on a trip-fag.Point still stands, even if you're accusing me of trip-fagging.
and they give out free origami when you order.
http://stores.ebay.com.au/JAPAN4YOU-STOREthis guy's pretty good, a lot of his 'broken' shit is just dirty power switches
>>4449101I just have to ask.. why use a trip in the first place? It seems really narcissistic and attention seeking if you ask me. If you can disprove me or show me that there's some kind of practical use, I'm all ears.
>>4449702Fuck off Trip fag
What retro video game music/soundtrack have you been listening to lately?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJE-iAE1Mt8https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTQIiIKummwhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFmQWWuy5i0https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7rSbXMProc
>>4450365On the note of Sonic Spinball, the PAL version has better music.Lava Powerhouse has an extra PSG tune that complements the song very wellhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcYTD9UhatoThe intro is a bit longer:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgXVbmsJRUAAnd I'm fairly sure the Options song is a bit faster paced but I can't find any youtube recordings for that at the moment.
>>4450393nevermind, found it:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiLO2KdCjw8compared to the ntsc one:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGWSijvWxFI
>>4450393>>4450395Impressive, I never noticed that. Played the pal version as a kid and now on emulator the ntsc. But I never knew the audio was different. Thanks!

In spite of it's negative reputation in the Castlevania community, you can't deny it's great soundtrack
When you first played this game, did you ever suspect it's legacy would be unskippable not-cutscenes, physics in which everything acts like rubber and digital storefront that's a dumping ground for games so bad they make movie license shovel ware on PS2 look respectable?
>>4450374d3 is cooli played doom from the time 1 was released. i didnt want a clone. i wanted a cool game. i got it.
>>4444689Half life 2 was to blame here, the only real non-skippable cutscene in HL1 was the tram ride and the anomalous materials section, from that point on you don't really stop, ever. Maybe at the end of Apprehension, but that takes like half a minute. Also despite featuring some basic physics, they never were the focus, yes there were some basic physics puzzles, but it was always just pushing a crate somewhere. And the last point is also incorrect, since Steam only appeared after HL2's release.By all standards, HL1 was a fantastic 90's shooter, Half life 2 is the gimmicky pandering sequel.
>>4452257>And the last point is also incorrect, since Steam only appeared after HL2's release. That explains my 2003 steam account
>>4452257>And the last point is also incorrect, since Steam only appeared after HL2's release.CS 1.6 was the first big thing that forced people into Steam but nobody really questioned it because they were already forced to use WON. Then HL2 came out after Steam and forced you to register and be online if you wanted to play it.
Hl2 in any way > hl 1. Hl1 is shitty quake clone with "storyline"
