how did you learn to design?
>>
>>327043
No, tracing is a tool.
To learn you'll need to study.
There's a nice list of books on the sticky in case you are not planning on enrolling somewhere
>>
>>327043
tracing is great for learning stuff like type design and the pen tool, and maybe illustration as well but not really for graphic design, although i believe someone recommended recreating old masters stationary works in order to understand their thinking process, design decisions and design fundamentals.

Took Screen Printing / Art Production in high school because I had to do an occupational course for credits and it was the only class I had previous interest in.

I had already learned the basics of Photoshop to edit photos (mostly levels, colors, basic selections) and make up very shitty pixel logos for fun, but with no direction or real skill. Was just having fun.

Started going to print class and we would start every day by being given a random drawing to do, sometimes with guideline (draw a flag), sometimes a word (happy) those are terrible examples, but we were supposed to take 15 minutes on it, MAX. This was really good practice for creative thinking and really got me learning how to put down what I'm thinking into work.

After taking 15 minutes to get some creative thinking going, we would do different things, like take what you just drew and scan it to put on the computers to edit to make it look the best for printing.

After having our little creative thinking time, lessons and workstation time, we would have the option to screen print using the presses with art we have just created and that's where I got hooked. That got me motivated to use the class to build my first company. I would design my graphics in class, use their computers to edit, and print my shirts that I would then sell and that put a lot of things in motion.

Pretty much turned into a rant with no clear point, but I learned to design at an occupational school that really gave me direction to learn how to take an idea and make it into something.

Since then, I've been working and managing print shops and have slowly done more graphic/web work and also has put me in the direction of learning CAD and other production processes over the past few years.
>>

Chris Do also recommends tracing to learn.
It's all about muscle memory and paying attention to detail.
Certainly drawing from observation would be the next step.

is your assignment phrased as "practical experience: a rich but very stupid client insists you spruce up his existing design"? if not, change majors

Hey dudes.
I'm having an issue with PhotoShop CS6, each time I launch the program the Layers window fails to load or just stays blank. I have to click the second tab in that window group and then back on the Layers tab, to get it to show.

Anyone else having this issue? Google isnt giving me any results.
>>
>>327257
never seen that before, maybe try reinstalling it and/or try a different version.
>>
>>327257
What have you tried? To reset photoshop hold ctrl (or shift, can't remember) while clicking on the .exe
>>
Delet system32
>>
>>327307
I haven't tried resetting PhotoShop, trying out what you suggested didn't help.
Going into the Window option when just booting up PS shows that Layers isnt ticked in at all, I can tick it in and it shows but when I restart PS it doesn't show up at all.

no, it isn't you retard. font rendering is done according to the sub pixel layout of your particular screen. even with a microscope, real shit would look completely different

cgpeers. Wait for open registration. You're welcome. If open registry isn't for a couple weeks, set an alarm and tell him Autodesk has at least a 30 day trial (some indefinite student versions) on all products directly from their website.

It's OK. We've gone over this. Now you need to keep working. You can't turn up here with a 5 min churned out logo and expect laurels. It's not bad for an absolute first attempt, although you fucked the kerning in the second one.

Now what? You want people to talk about it till the end of time? You're not gonna retire on this logo, you're not even gonna make a penny for it, so maybe get cracking on something new.
>>
>>327434
what nah, i got over it , its a first and thats what it is, an attempt, i just got here because i wanted some advice and opinions and thats what i got
anyways thanks for your input

hmm i nearly (very nearly) thought the same thing, but then i thought this is probably a stock photo

just searched and its a result on google

This generation’s Da Vinci?

He would make a good graphic designer

hes a natural genius at marketing and branding but not graphic design. take as it is, the trump logo font is tacky and ugly, and so are his magazines. i assume didnt even design any of them but he did approve them.
>>
donald trump definetley has some sort of sense for aesthetics of a certain form though. not strictly visual, but more "personal", or situational. this is why he was able to defeat all other republicans and then clinton. they were all bland corporate images essentially indistinguishable from one another. trump was radical, new, different. the content didnt matter it only mattered that it was different.
>>
>>327374

He just didn’t have time to micromanage the design with how much of an Alpha he was being while running the rest of his business empire

You guys are a far cry from designers if you think his campaign wasn't sleek and I fucking hate the dude but it's so good he could just reuse it to get elected
>>
>>327392

No it was great. I just don’t like the Trump / Pence font mostly in their logo during election.

Some guy in another thread was having trouble with his Twitch streaming logo. So I made it for him!

Here you go, man. Enjoy. Love you babe. Xoxo. <3. Hope you love it

man, if you are looking for a feedback from professional designers i would say its 1/10

it looks like its your first project in photoshop and you are 12

the original could have been an averagely shitty wallpaper if you deleted the text off it, this new version is complete garbage

Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone knows of any apps that’s are available to develop Vitual Reality or Augmented Reality? I possibly need it so I can develop through the program using a IPad Pro

Any help would be massively appreciated

Thanks in advance

So i bought cs6 years ago and no a friend of mine hired him to make his companys logo. Now i was wondereng: by buying cs6 did i also buy the right to use all preinstalled fonts in that program in "for profit" ebdeavors/projects? Or do i have to actually buy the font i use sepperatly?

Pic unrelated
>>
>>327344
all the adobe fonts are free to use in any commercial project even if you don't bought the software
>>
>>327354
to add onto this, media software companies like Adobe and Autodesk care less about their bottom line and more about dominating the market and having everybody reliant on their software.
>>
>>327354 ok thanks for the answer

I’ve been studying graphic design for almost two semesters but barely have anything in my portfolio. A family friend told me they’re hiring machine programmers who have experience with illustrator. He pretty much said they could hire me just that he would have to see my portofolio. Could I create a portofolio within 3 weeks that shows I know how to use illustrator?
>>
>>327369

Yes. Get a full 3-4 days of work on there and it'll be golden.

1) make your projects (which would be fake or dummy projects seeing as you haven't been building a portfolio so far) and/or images believable

2) If they're going to be looking at your files and examining how you've utilized layers etc. then it'll take some time and you can't just line trace shit

3) learn the techniques for reals, because if they ask you to do a live example of something, then you better know other things than just copy-paste tutorial shit from google.

Try making the text in illustrator normally, then outline the fonts. Then do Path - - > Simplify and play around with the settings (with Preview enabled) and now you have letters that look like that.

(btw those signs have letters made with vinyl stickers, which is why the have curled up edges) or at least that's what it looks like.
>>
>>327164
>>327365

To be honest actually I think the plate is the white part and the blue is the sticker. Anyway, the aforementioned illustrator-thingie should work fine.
