Guys, my good old 5930k is starting to show it's age in gaming, even OC'ed to 4.3ghz (which is the best I can do with my cooling scheme).

I'm mostly into emulation of older games, which is fun, but is very CPU heavy and my 5930k just isn't performing as well anymore.

Which CPU would be the BEST upgrade for me? I don't mind putting a thousand burgerbucks down if it means I don't have to upgrade in a while.

/pcbg/ has never led me wrong before.

Recommended modern models:
X220 - 12", 768p, cheap and light
T420 - 14", 900p, widely available, socketed CPU, Ivy Bridge installable w/ Coreboot
W520 - 15", 1080p, Desktop Replacement, 32GB RAM on quadcore models, USB 3.0
T440p, T540p, W540 - last ThinkPads to have replaceable CPUs, IPS displays available, chiclet
P series - reminiscent to old build quality, top-of-the-line specs, better than most current mobile workstations, but very expensive

Sup, tpg.

I really want myself T430 (with keyboard replacement and shit). But I live in postal service hell, so nobody will ship here or your package will be lost/stolen, and it's impossible to get good deal on local craiglist alternatives. So, I have to get one on ebay.

Is getting working T430 under 80$ + delivery no more than a meme now? I really can't spend more than 150$ on it (see below, shipping costs).

Where will I have more luck finding good deal on ebay - in USA (I will have to pay additional 50-60$), or in Germany (delivery around 30-40$)?

Is it possible to install US keyboard on ThinkPad with some shitty european layout?

getting a strapcode oyster for mine as soon as they are back in stock. you could go green nato, green/brown perlon or aged/horween leather straps.

I like the watch. the only gripe I have is with the 6R15 movement in that it doesn't have an instant date changeover (slowly changes between 9 and 12) and that the buckle isn't signed seiko.

other than that the quality is good for the money, though I don't really have anything within the same price bracket to compare it to

1080p was never a good resolution. 1600x1200 and 1920x1200 are far superior due to more vertical space. If you want 16:9 at least get 1440p.
>>
>>63772080
4k means approximately 4000 horizontal pixels. DCI 4k is 4096x2160 and UHD 4k is 3840x2160
>>
>>63773174
I would agree, but 1600x1200 and 1920x1200 are hard if not impossible to find on a panel suited for gaming. If it has high refreshrate, it might still suck because of blacks or other issues.
1440 really doesn't offer you much in terms of looks, but it requires a lot more power. I pretty much stopped playing newer games, so might get a 1440 but not for games, more because i just want bigger and "better".

No GPU installed, yesterday windows randomly switched to basic theme, while no demanding programs were running. After that PC became very slow and I had to restart.

I've got an i5 3570k and an Assrock z77 extreme4.

How can I check whether either of these is dying?

One more thing, before I reapplied thermal paste a while ago, the highest temp my CPU reached was 105°C. And this happened multiple times. Could that have fried the CPU?

AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure have pretty cheap on-demand instance pricing. You can start/stop an instance in < 1 minute, so you can just stop an instance (to avoid being billed for it) while its not in use.

If you need to do work that can't easily be done on an iPad (i.e. dev) then you can just ssh into the instance and work on it remotely. If you want a desktop, you can even run a VNC server and use the iPad as a VNC client. You'll end up paying < $10 a month, and you could even run prototypes for any application on the server, so if you're doing dev it's a pretty reasonable option.

What Mac Os Version Runs On A Pentium 4 ?

/g/ I got a 21:9 monitor for pretty cheap over the holidays and I'm looking for a single board computer for it that can support 2560x1080.

I mostly intend to use this thing with linux and synergy as an second workspace for my chromebook.

Rule out any type of pi, or odroid, these only support up to 1920x1080. I just want a decent SBC to mount on back. Gigabit ethernet and usb 3.0 is nice too. Any ideas?
