My PSU fan is making very loud noise aprox. every 20-30 minutes. When i shake the case it goes away but not for too long, anyone know what is happening?
>>63772544perhaps some lint/dust or some lose shit (melted hotglue or a cable that was formerly fixed) that the fan blades touch. Remove the power cord, hold the power button pushed to discharge the cpacitators, open the computer case and clean it (vacuuming or compressed air). You may also want to check the other parts but be careful to not damage anything.
>>63772846PC is new and under warranty. Maybe i should just take it to shop for repair instead of fucking with it?

I'm going to myself buy a set of speakers, an amp and a vinyl player in time for Christmas. I guess I can call it a Christmas present for myself. As to my actual Christmas shopping, I got my mom a pair of Bose QC35s couple of months back as an early Christmas present. She needed headphones for air travel, so no point in waiting for Christmas just for the sake of it.
I'm buying a smartphone and I know it isn't necessary to spend a lot of money. I think a good smartphone could be galaxy A5 with 250$. What do you think? Can you suggest me some other smartphones with that price?
>>63772650Xiaomi Redmi Note 4
>>63772650Why don't you post in /spg/?Best price/performance ratio below USD250 is the Xiaomi Mi A1, Meizu M6 Note unless you are American. You could also look at last years LG G5 or LG V20. Going a little higher gets you a Xiaomi Mi Note 3.Until now the Galaxy A series have not been bad, but not great, just average. You also won't get updates for long (probably).

>>63772675yes, it's a reference to each object, when iterating through the array. You could call it anything else.In this case "el" short for element, but you could use "item", "obj", etc.
I'm opening up a new one because the current (now old) one is about to die. What should I do about my current monitor situation? Should I buy an old HP LP2475W monitor to match my second monitor? An anon said to buy a used 30" 2560x1600 monitor off eBay, but they are a bit pricey and not a lot of them are being sold at a good price.

Still working on it, new speakers for Christmas and the big TV is coming down soon. It's 720p and annoying to look at compared to the monitors below.

So, /g/, I’ve been to my girlfriend’s parents’ house recently, and they have a ham radio station. Her mother demonstrated how it works and I think I’m hooked. Problem is, we live really far away so I can’t ask her parents to teach me. I’m a complete noob at this, so I really need the basics. My main problem is the conflicting information online as to what to start with, both hardware and information wise. The only thing I really know is that I gotta get a license, but I don’t know what’s on there or pretty much anything else. There must be some oldfag hams here right? Thanks in advance, pic of parents’ station
>>63760958Fellow ham here. You can email me at [email protected] and I can chat you up personally, I don't like chatting on these message boards.
>>63768321Nobody is buying your bullshit. You want to give OP bad info without anyone able to call you out on your redardation.

I will likely be getting my ham license soon either this month or next.

I've had this raspberry pi 3 since last Christmas, haven't used it because I didn't already own a HDMI screen. Given I have no peripherals already what should I buy to make this thing actually usable? Is it worth putting the time and money into this thing?Links appreciated.
>>63772079Well I attached it to my router and I run a headless NAS+torrentbox using just deluged, samba and a couple of HDDs, which serves media to my clients (pc, laptop, TVs with RPI/non-RPI boxes with Kodi on them).I load torrents on it through a web interface and a few minutes later I find the new movie on my TVs.It's something.

Arch or Debian?Which one and why?
>>63770027>adding reposI don't get this meme at allInstead of having the upstream distribute the binary in a distro agnostic way (eg appimage, firefox from mozilla) or the distro which makes sure the package works nice with the rest you trust random repos which push updates daily with God knows what broken changes or dependencies.GNU/Linux has that wonderful thing called make and Debian provides development libraries for almost anything you want.If you are so afraid to compile from source why don't you stick with Windows or Mac, we won't judge.Or at least try building for once instead of mongrelifying Debian with random PPAs, you will find that building from source is easier, less of a maintenance burden and offers more control and choice than random repos, PPAs or AUR
>>63771267>If you are so afraid to compile from sourceNot afraid to compile from source the same as I'm not afraid of keying in Word through the bit-switches on the front panel of my system unit. I just regard it as an anacronistic waste of time. You make a virtue out of necessity.
devuanarch is just a meme distro, debian is what you really want and devuan is debian without that systemd garbage

Why isn't there a standard or format for super high quality 4,K to 8K game texture compression? Some games have over 100GB of data because of large textures, there should be a way to compress them.
>>63772463They are compressed. Lossless compression can only go so far, and lossy compression just leads to arficacts which, at high resolution, would be immediately noticeable.
Because it's easier to make unoptimized programs/games and ask consumers to buy more powerful machines and bigger storage instead

Hi /g/, can anyone suggest me a good rom for Xperia L1? Phone, as it is, is a fucking piece of shit. It's slow, unresponsive, have constant updates and app suggestions popping up. In other words, I paid 200 Eur for a adds ridden lag box.I was looking for custom ROM's on google, but all the suggestions are about "All these awesome features" and what not. Is there any ROM that's lightweight, super fast and have only basics? I need only Call, text, whatsapp, camera, pdf/calc/calendar email and clock. I don't need even music player or maps. I just want to have basics working fast and with no issues. To add, I never rooted or installed custom ROM, but I'm ok to risk.
there are none
>>63772677Must be something
>>63772726I've looked but it's a very new phone so you probably got a wait a little longer before roms will be released... But there's root tho.
>>63772751Thanks, I'm just a bit disappointed as I usually spend no more than 120 Eur on phones and they work just fine. Now I decided to spend a bit more because I like how it looks and it's not even faster or problem free than 5 year old huawei phone. And all these adds, God damn...
