What is the best zoo or aquarium you’ve seen in terms of animal care? Including the effort put into their enclosure, their diets, their lifestyles etc For me the Henry Doorly Zoo, while small, tries its best to make environments to fit the needs of their animals. My first dog, a Dalmatian my parents got before I was born, was scratching to come back inside late at night. 8 year old me went to let her in, and at the time, the sliding door we had was hard for me to open and shut because it was heavy. So I relied on momentum for the door to close. Shelby got just about all the way in before I started closing the door, not seeing the tail, and, unable to stop the momentum, it sliced about 1/2 of get tail clean off. Blood everywhere, Shelby whimpering and crying, parents had to get the neighbor's help. Until she passed away years later, every time I saw her try to wag her tail reminded me of how bad I fucked up. Look on craigslist rideshares and see if someone will bring you the puppy Or do the United flight with the dog with you. You can get some sedatives fron the vet before you go. Don't let her eat or drink for a while before your flight. Line the cage with absorbant pads and shake some baking soda on the bottom as a deoderizer. People do it but it's a pain in the ass.
I would never transport an animal by air unless it was absolutely necessary. I used to load airplanes. I am surprised you don't hear about all the ones that die. Granted, almost all of them will survive(only a few out of 10k) but when it reads '53 pets died on US Airlines in two months' doesn't bode better.I've driven nearly across the entire country to pick them up myself. You can do it within 2 or 3 days if you're not the only driver and, don't get lost or stuck in traffic. It's take you a day to drive down to FL. It took me a little over 24 hours from NH. See if trains are an iption, at least. Amtrak allows pets under a certain weight limit but I doubt there's a straight line from Kansas to Florida so you'd have to train hop.When did you buy this dog? Op, if you can find ANY POSSIBLE alternative to flying your pet on a standard airline, do it. They do not give a shit about animals as long as they don't die before they're loaded and stink up the cargo hold too much. Some workers will outright abuse your dog. Keep pet air travel as an absolute last resort unless you can get a ticket for one of those speciality animal transport flights

Picking a planet seems like a logical first step - after all an animal's environment is ultimately what guides its evolution. What are some interesting/alien environmental obstacles that would result from an exoplanet having higher/lower gravity, water, temperature, atmosphere etc.?I've been toying with the idea of the first land colonizers being photosynthetic fungus analogs with some level of motility. However, I'm having a hard time coming up with a compelling reason why a photoautotroph would bother moving around on land. I suppose a low gravity planet could make movement energetically cheap, but that doesn't strike me as a very satisfying justification. Any ideas?

The thing that ruins alien species for me is the insistence of their creators to make them too exotic and give them some sort of superpower no matter how small (elecricity rods, fire breathing, etc) If creatures exist on other planet they'll be just like Earthlings: 95% boring as fuck and 5% have evolved some queer quality (think archer fish or viper mantis).The major difference will be that their shapes, colors, and weight distribution will depend heavily on their planetary conditions (perhaps they all evolved a chemicals skin coat to deflect excessive radiations or whatever)
