I skinned this pheasant yesterday and its haunted me. I'd never gutted or skinned a fresh-killed animal before, but I didn't know I would feel this way. It's like a mixture of guilt, satisfaction and reverence? Maybe? I'm not guilty to the point that I couldn't do it again or that I think it's wrong, but after stripping its face off, I just felt obligated to treat this body with respect. I could not throw the remains away. It had to be buried. I even named him Eggbert. Has anyone else felt like this after killing an animal and stripping it of everything you need from it? Do you feel the need to bury its remains? What does it feel like to you to kill an animal for food?
