Alright, /an/. I need some help. I have recently been diagnosed with PTSD and Anxiety derived from PTSD and was told I had the option to a service dog. I was already planning on getting a German shepherd (Pic related, came from the same breeder.) For home defense and a solid companion. I would like to know how long training would take when I find the right one, what to expect, and if I need a designated trainers help to que the dog to my own signs of needing assistance. What happened is the breed club for GSDs had the dogs stay in that stance, called stacking. Think of it kid of like how pointers will get into that stance to point. It became iconic for the breed. Because it became so important that the GSD breed has a good stack, people began fussing over it more. In confirmation shows, the stack got more points and therefore people started to breed to exaggerate the stack so their dogs could win and become the best of their breed. For a while, and even today, this form was desired over the actual function of the dog.I digress, the only surefire way to tell if a dog has a good confirmation or not is to see them unstacked, and in motion. Stacking is fine if you want it to prance around and look cute, but there really is no point to it. You will want to look at the back legs, make sure there is no obvious weakness, check for things like sickle hock, cow hock, toeing in, etc (a lot of these can only be seen looking at the back, not the side), look for a humped or sloped back, make sure the dog isn't running on it's ankles or have side-steps when it walks. Due to the breed standard and how incredibly popular the GSD has become, they are probably the most structural health issue riddled dog of it's size. Normally with breeders I'd tell people to just look at health certificates and call it a day, but shopping for a GSD breeder has it's own metagame. Many crappy breeders will say their dogs are working lines, or that they give their dogs to military and/or police, and they may very well do that, but that alone doesn't make their dogs any good. Another thing GSD breeders will do is say their dogs are imports from Germany or some other place, so that MUST make their dogs good for some reason. There is a lot of research to do to find even a decent GSD breeder.

It's probably tlhe same for rats, though they may be a bit more social by default than cats, I suppose. I think if you adopt a pair of rats, the main thing you have to do is consider whether two males or two females will think of the other as a rival.

Dog problem!When I come home for christmas my dog (a weimaraner) doesn't want to go up to the second floor (23 normal steps) where shes free to walk around, whilst before she had no issue going upstairs. She really doesn't want to go upstairs, she shivers, tail between legs, ears down, looks very sad, shes even sceptical to treats if we try to lure her to come.When we make her go up by almost dragging her through the door leading up, she slowly walks up and straight to her cage, where she lies til she hears anything that might lead to her going downstairs...What do you guys suggest i do and what might be causing this?She is 11 dog y/o, has a lot of hunting endeavours and generally seems very happy, until she gotta go upstairs...

I'm not sure where else to go, but I'm hoping there are some fish experts out there.I recently bought a fish from walmart. I didnt know shit about betta fish until after I purchased him. I thought he looked pretty down and out so I wanted to change his luck.He seems pretty happy right now, but the more I read about these things the more I worry about his health.I think he may have a parasite or some sort of fungus coupled with a really nasty ammonia burn. His gills are really dark in color as well. Anyone else got one? This is my 40 gallon breeder "native tank". I have 7 sunfish in it total 5 blue gills and 2 pumpkinseeds, I also have a bullhead catfish. all of my fish i caught in a minnow trap in local waters. It is also scaped like the native waters they come from, gonna add some driftwood still waiting for it to get waterlogged enough in a separate container for it to sink in my tank.
