I just got an email that two of the eleven puppies from the litter I'm buying from have low-grade heart murmurs (1 to 2 out of 6).It's a large breed and I've read that large breed puppies can develop mild heart murmurs because of their rapid development, and then grow out of them. All of their parents and grandparents have good hearts (no DCM or murmurs or anything), and when I've been able to find information on the health of their aunts, uncles, great aunts and uncles, cousins, and so on, I've never found one with heart problems. The breeder says she'll refund half the cost of the puppy if they still have the murmur, but at what age, she didn't specify so I'll have to ask. I'd assume it's somewhere between 4 and 6 months.Gimme the scoop on low-grade puppy heart murmurs.Should I say I'm open to taking one of the puppies with a murmur if their temperament is a good match for me (they get temperament tested on the 10th) or be adamant I get a puppy without a murmur? Thanks.
It’ll be fine op, if they grow out of it they grow out of it, if not then it’s a rare case and you’ll love your dog regardless. I mean if you’re getting a dog you should be able to afford a vet visit if something were to happen right?
dog breeders are fucking scum, hope your whole family burns to death
Had a cat die due to a heart murmur as well as a beagle whose was either II or III grade. Don't remember much about the first since I was a kid but neither could have any sort of surgery or anesthesia. Dog needed some dental work done and had a small scabby bump that could have been removed but two vets said the same thing about going under the knife. At least she was old, pushing 16.I honestly wouldn't buy a puppy from a breeder with a problem like this. To me it's like buying a puppy with cancer because it 'might' go away/be cured. And like cancer, it could be as easy and simple as removing a mole or just as easily be lethal. I suggest you seek the advice of vets experienced with heart problems about it and the breed.
I've got a 12 year old cat that's had a low grade heart murmur his entire life. He's recently developed quite bad arrhythmia as a result of hyperthyroidism but is being medicated and his heart rate should stabilise soon.Low grade heart murmurs usually aren't serious, but I'd speak with a veterinarian.
>>2547530Is the breeder showing proof that there is no family history of it or are you just taking their word for it? If you can afford any heart complications and you are emotionally prepared in case the dog dies young, go for it. From what I've read it seems puppy heart murmurs under grade 3 usually go away by 5 months of age. I'm sure it will be fine. Just always take their heart into consideration when choosing a diet and exercising too heavily.
I'm dumping some bonsai pictures I've taken over the past couple months. We'll start with the Milwaukee Bonsai Society's annual show for this year.
Can I buy plants from the garden centre now, and not fuck up the plant by pruning/repotting? Or should I wait till early spring?
Work is fucking me thoroughly lately, plus my time after work is being taken by mentoring for a local robotics club. Have some more teasers though.

>>2547076>>use proper cleaning fluids or it'll get sickI mean don't use windex on the cage, use proper reptile cage-cleaning fluids
>>2547076>sand (gets cold), newspaper if you're lazy and don't want to clean up poop, or bark (gets moldy so replace every few months)None of these except newspaper is acceptable. Paper towel is good. Ceramic or slate tile is best, easy to spot clean, retains heat. Excavator clay if you want naturalistic. Sand is bad because it's an impaction risk and is also hard on beardie's joints to walk through it constantly. They don't live on loose sand in the wild; natural habitat is primarily compact soil and rocks. Best safe glass cleaner is a 50/50 vinegar/water solution. For deep cleaning overhaul and sterilization: chlorhexidine.
>>2547076not OP but do you have any suggestions on where to find a juvenile or adult?
I've had mine about 4 months I've found that I seem to always think something is wrong or hes dehydrated, in reality hes fine. Hes eating, growing, shedding, pooping, sleeping, and basking in a normal and reguler basis so things "should" be fine

Need advise, i want to get a golden retriever, but it's gonna cost me around 400usd.Can someone help me decide?>living w/ sisters>works on IT>play games of weekends Of course, you can't get GRs from a pound from where i live.
>>2547445>>2547297OP here,Living in flipland here, normally golden are cap at that price.I know about the cancer etc, but how do i make sure their health is good? The very least i know they have vaccines.
>>2547452You need to ask proof of health. Not just ask them if the parents are healthy, anyone can lie or just say they haven't been sick yet. You need to ask for hip scores and medicals on at least the parents. If your budget is under $400 and/or you're in a shithole, you're going to get a mess of an animal anyways. I would honestly suggest a breed that is less prone to health problems like a beagle or something.

I hear a lot of talk on here about how pit bulls are the niggers of dogs, which I can agree on to a certain extent as I got nipped by a friends Pitbull for doing nothing and then the fucker bit the guys dad pretty badly later on. Is it weird that when my hairs wet my cats and dog like to lick on it and I let them because I like the way it feels. Also does the fact that their doing this mean that they want to eat my hair or does it mean that they're grooming me?
Crap I put a period instead of a question mark after my first sentence.
Most likely just grooming if they aren’t actively chewing your hair off.
>>2547548Does this mean they actually care about me?
How do you feel about big cat hybrids like the liliger? Neat, playing God, or both?
>>2545524When it comes to cats I believe all males are sterile, but female hybrids can reproduce with fertile males of either of their parents species. Which is why you have second or even third generation hybrids like OPs pic. Isn't this also true with mules, horse/donkey hybrids? Also, does anyone have pictures of leopard/lion hybrids? Those things are fucking gorgeous. But web searches are just giving me the same two images over and over interspersed with shitty photoshop pics.
>>2544179Dat ass
>>2545524>>2546549It's been a long time since middle school science class so bear with me. I could be entirely wrong so anyone who knows better feel free to correct.Using humans as an example: Sperm and cell cells contain 23 chromosomes each. Sperm and egg combine and it becomes 46. Donkeys have 62 chromosomes, horses have 64 and mules have 63(32 are from horses while 31 are from donkeys). There are no recorded cases of a fertile male mule but females occasionally can reproduce.>Note: Not sure about zebra-hybrids but I imagine males are sterile and as far as I know there has never been a fertile zebra-hybrid mare. Most cats have 28 chromosomes. Lions, tigers, jaguars, pumas, etc though some south american felines only have 3 such as the ocelot. (Pumas and ocelot hybrids have been recorded)http://messybeast.com/genetics/hyb-pumaxocelot.htmWe used to think that animals with a different number of chromosomes can't reproduce(not sure how they explained mules since i imagine they've been around for awhile but maybe they didn't know about chromosomes then) but mules, sheep x goat hybrids(not the chimeras) and african x asian elephants have produced hybrids despite they have a different number of chromosomes.Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
>>2546601 I'm not sure but I would assume that like male mules, chromosomes on the male part/reproductive cells just aren't lined up right but I'm finding very little information on why it could be this or that such as testing for sperm quality(too many dead ones, mutations, 'unhealthy' sperm, etc) or hormone levels since no one is mentioning if whether or not males even attempt to mate. >>2546549Leopard/lion or do you mean leopard/jaguar like pic related?Bear Creek Sanctuary has two jaglions and fuck them for not having better pictures.

my rooomate got a german shepard puppy and its driving me crazy because he stranded it with me for like a week. it screams in its kennel more than a puppy should, i thinkshe doesnt eat much, and whenever i let her out to use the bathroom or play in the yard she will not do anything but eat shit and look for shit to eat. she doesnt have problems destroying the house or shitting everywhere or anything. its really hard to get her to willingly get into her kennel, it can take like half an hour. sometimes i have to manhandle her to get in there because i have shit to do. I only let her out when she quiets down for a couple minutes if she's fussing. should be beating the shit out of it? is that proper dog training?
>>2545160Maybe not use the kennel, you puppy mill tier nigger? That thing couldn’t possibly weigh past ten lbs. At worst weighs as much as a paper weight.
>>2546421Well the ignore the kennel then. A dog bed is fucking easier to deal with anyhow.Get some dog ointment for the sore, if it doesn’t heal within a couple of days check a vet.Honestly the puppy seems to be getting use to the place. Not uncommon for dogs to be nervous to new places.

So here is all that is left of my 2 year old tabby cat, but the tracking number says it isn't even ours. I guess I learned what happens to outside cats. The most fucked up part is that it's because my family doesn't want to keep the doors closed and made a big deal when I would bring it up and argue with me and say, "we need them open." I know our AC doesn't work but they could of just gotten electric fans, but they didn't want to. The week before our cat ran away, there was a huge swarm of bees that was stuck in our house. It is a big house with part of the second story gone so there are big windows and the bees all started following each other trying to go out of one of these windows, a whole swarm. And we shot them with bee killer spray. And now my stupid cat is gone and probably in the same position as this cat, so far away from it's owners, and with no way of finding out who owns it even with the tracking number. My stupid psycho little brother was even saying he would cremate it and the nurse snapped at him and said no, I'm glad someone finally put that little retard in his place. Both my little brother and sister went to pre colleges with 100 people in their class and only ever talk to the teachers and they are weird as fuck. My little brother threw water on me for giving the cat food he didn't like (and of course my parents defended him and told me to just stay away from the food), my little sister almost got a new stray cat from one of her teachers but he must of realized he was meddling too much and didn't respond when they showed up. I just wish this poor little kitten didn't have to pay for my families stupidity.
>>2543443I have inside/outside cats, but I don't have a second story house infested with bees and hillbillies. My cats are still alive
>>2544491Yeah well, we can't all be lucky like you.
Just had another neighbor tell us they found a cat like ours. Picked it up and its definitely not ours. And it has a broken leg, fuck.
