Daimos didn't try to be subtle with its overarching message, but there was a lot of subtlety in the various relationships between the characters, especially among the antagonists. I think that's pretty much a hallmark of Nagahama's style. He can lay it on kind of thick, but I think that's because he knows a lot of his audience are kids and so he wants to make sure they get it. That said, I love this show. It's got some solid fight scenes and you do wind up caring about the two mains by the end, if only to see if their story actually has a happy ending. The fact that it's left open to interpretation is both frustrating and a little out of sync with how the rest of the show is so direct, but I have come to appreciate it. There is no easy answer.Kind of makes you wonder, if the bad guys had bullets that could punch through Daimos' armor so easily, why didn't they use them right from the start? The jobbing in the final corridor never sat well with me after everything we've seen it tank throughout the series. Suddenly normal guns can just tear through the cockpit like that?I do love how one of the biggest assholes in the series isn't even an alien. General Miwa is such a bastard.

The climax wasn't the big robo battle, it was the reveal that Sopp is literally God, a reveal that had less impact in the film because of poor exposition. All the crap about Juba wanting to keep the Fatimas as sex slave being the main plot of the film was a gross simplification of what was going on in the manga, and so there isn't as much payoff in the ending.
