Am I alone in saying the last thing I want is to outlast my mortal death? I fully expect to based on what is generally agreed upon regarding eschatology but I would just as soon not exist. Why do people want to keep doing this shit interminably? I've met idiots who say they'd rather spend eternity in hell than cease to exist. That is the absolute epitome of retardation for me.
>>
It's very difficult for people to wrap their heads around the concept of simply not being. They do not want to accept that it's this one stupid life toiling away in various states of misery (with the misery level being more in certain regions) and then eternal lights out. It's so "unfair" and yes....pointless. So the need to create religion, spirituality and the such was created in conjunction with the imagination, superstition and yearning to control/be controlled. But yeah being immortal would probably suck fucking dick.
>>
>>20014014
No, but only if nonexistence was guaranteed to be permanent.

If consciousness is an emergent property of matter, and if the universe continues to exist after you die, then it's possible for the physical conditions that cause your consciousness to be expressed to recur. Presumably consciousness was, as a property, nonexistent until whatever patterns that were required to express it were assembled. I see no reason why, if consciousness is an emergent property of matter, it could not emerge again. I would much rather live until the universe dies and have a complete record of what I've experienced in the universe then pop up randomly here and there, only to be destroyed with no recollection of any of this happening (because memory is also an emergent property of matter). Or, even more terrifyingly, happen to re-exist with a complete memory of events that never actually occurred, purely by coincidence.

It seems unlikely that the potential for us to exist would end at our death, rather only when the universe itself dies and all potentials are exhausted.

But I mean yeah definitely. This doesn't make any sense at all.

So I'm surprised I've never read about this concept, but now that I think about it it's extremely obvious that the typical sci-fi concept of "time travel" should really be more like "time teleportation".

Because we are always traveling forward in time, so the opposite of that, traveling backward in time would simply be reversing the flow of time which would make you even lose your memories that you time traveled in the first place. Point being, traveling "through" time makes you subject to its effects and going in reverse would make your body and all your memories also go backward in their history and you'd forget everything.
What we really want is to be completely displaced discontinuously in time (to make an object from one point in time "jump" to a different point without traveling through the intermediate time periods which would reverse the history of the object/person).

So considering that, along with the fact that space and time are really coupled into a single "spacetime", I'm guessing if there is any such thing as time travel we'll discover it at the same instant that we discover how to teleport through space.

TL;DR spatial teleportation and time travel (temporal teleportation) are one and the same thing, and you would simply teleport to different spacetime coordinates.

Think about it, it makes perfect sense. Why would we have a single unified "spacetime" but yet 2 totally separate concepts for jumping through space and jumping through time.

There's obviously just one general principle behind it: a "spacetime jump". Where time travel and teleportation are just 2 special less-general cases.
>>
but what about Time Travel as teleporting your consciousness back in time (the consciousness doesnt change)
>>
>>20014358
This is in Anne McAffrey's Dragonriders of Pern, the dragons can temporally teleport. This isn't new.
>>
>>20014358
>https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Closed_timelike_curve
I don't understand it fully but from what I understand spacetime can be bent enough that the timelike aspect of something's wordline (series of events from its perspective, although this is only how I understand it and I'm sure there's a more scientific way of putting it) can intersect with itself. This creates the appearance of time-teleportation from the standpoint of an observer- something will be progressing forward through time, then suddenly disappear, appear in the past, and then resume traveling forward. But from the perspective of the object itself, it's completely continuous and it does literally travel backwards, then forward again.

It's a paradox though because it means that some conditions that were a cause of the alterations to the object's time-like trajectory were caused by the alteration itself, which defies our understanding of causality. The loop creates the conditions which create the loop so there's no clear origin.

Its opposite. The failed pyramids are product of Egyptians trying replicate the real old ones and failing.

So the Jesuits went to China and rewrote their own history and managed to make them believe wrong things about their own past (and erased proofs from their own archives)?
And the Chinese allowed this?

This is so fucking far-fetched that I won't even ask for proof.

Also holy shit a pyramid!
Such a complex shape!
No way cold someone else other the Egyptians think of it on their own!

1)trolls dont exist
2)trolls are real creatures that are result of evolution or work of some talented scientists.
3)trolls dont exist
choose an option that you like and try to support it with evidences.
also dont believe everything people here say
or you can go further and do research yourself
read all literature that mentions trolls
go to scandinavia and talk with locals, go to forests and try to find trolls.

I'm still working on studying Scandinavian mythology and folklore, but yes. If I'm not mistaken, they're a degredation of the mythological jotnar (giants), though I think I recall reading somewhere that some of them may have derived from stories of witches and such, as well. Sort of a blend of various woodland dangers.

There are other things as well, though such as the huldra or the nisse.

sup /x/men

i've been up all night drinking some decent IPA and i'm now in the phase of wanting to creep myself out with some genuinely spooky videos.

Let's stay away from execution and ISIS torture shit. We've all seen that on other boards here but that's not the reason we browse /x/.

I want the kind of shit that when you see, it makes you feel uneasy. Preferably paranormal shit, goes without saying.

Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ViOmvnY2JTU

It's obvious this could have been faked rather easily. Just a dude with a hefty rucksack and a bedsheet to make him/her look like a humpbacked hermit or something.

But the combination of the cameraman's nervous and panicked voice, the erratic way the driver seems to both try to intimidate the "witch" while also seeming to be afraid to get too close...

It 's not the creepiest or most disturbing thing i've seen, but it's a video that gives me genuine creeps, whether its faked or not.

Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.

There was that one video of a guy exploring a mine. He intended it to be a demo for a flashlight, but towards the end of the video it gets spooky as shit. He gets towards the end of the mine and then this weird whispering starts from out of nowhere. Someone probably has the link and they should post it here.

Go explore the area with your dogs, take them for walks around the neighborhood or bush near your property so they have a better idea of what the new area is like. If they keep barking at night then have a look for what they're barking at, chances are it's just animals they're not used to.

Grandiose thinker - sometimes you either completely ignore details or get into them so much that forget about things which are happening around you. A desire to find a partner who'd be some sort of "mother" figure in your life and you put great deal into finding such relationship. Overall you're a person who doesnt like to live in reality or boggle himself with mundane tasks.

Hey /x/, how do you escape this situation?

The universe couldn't end in heat death with an immortal in it. Because that person would continue to radiate energy into the surrounding area no matter what.

make offerings to them on their specified days of the week.

TLDR : I almost got iced by the smiley killer in jersey city (not really but iced by someone.) This is really bothering me and if anyone could throw out ideas that aren’t criminal that explain what two men on a small dingy boat in a bay at 1 am were up to/intentions it’d be swell. I recently heard about a missing person maybe a year ago from my area and how it was linked to men in their 20s going missing around the waterfront.

If these guys didn’t plan on taking me out in the water and murdering me because they thought I saw something I didn’t see, or were murderers, what the HELL were they doing. so I’m riding along the Hudson walkway. Imagine a straight walkway but on the corners of the land there are circular docks with benches, a staircase leads up and a ramp leads down or vice versa. I didn’t see him at first but when I came around the bend of the circle area I saw a guy who seemed to be frozen still with his hand reached down. I assumed it was a dog on a leash, but couldn’t see shit cause it was so dark. I said maybe 15 feet away “yeoo sup man.” He looked so startled it was bad.. like tweaking startled. I assumed that and was just like ahh stay off the glass lemme get outta here. As I got closer to him I saw with the light on my bike he wasn’t walking a dog he was pulling another dude out of the water (alive, his friend/associate.) I have no idea where they came from but they were in the water on a dingy at 1 am for some reason...and it didn’t hit me how strange that was at first. More like super lonely “oh cool man I wish I had friends that did stuff like that” type shit. My mindset was ok we’re both doing something illegal so I just rode a little bit away and sat on a bench and smoked the bowl I planned on smoking where they were standing. They came up to me and asked if I was going to the police. “We don’t have to worry about that right” I didn’t really understand because I didn’t see anything illegal?
