So in the hype for the upcoming starwars movie some friends and I decided to run a campaign based in the starwars universe. My idea is to run them through the course of starwars history, from the end of the Mandalorian wars to the rise of the First order. The first "Season" takes place in the Old republic era, take a look, tell me if it's shit or what you like.>Party is immediately thrown into the deep end, fighting the space battle over Malachor V in episode 1. Should they all survive, they will be treated as heros to the republic and get the classic award ceremony scene at the end.>Party is called upon by a Republic Senator requesting their aid to recover a stolen trinket from black marketeers.>Upon success the parry is sent out by, and accompanied by said senator on a quest for several more artifacts to complete his collection. All the while finding these mysterious maps that seem to link together. >Party discovers the maps lead to the location of the Soul Saber, an Ancient Sith lightsaber embued with great dark side power. Further learning that the Senator is a self appointed Dark Lord, intending to use the Soul Saber and the other artifacts recovered by the party as symbols of power to raise a new Sith Empire.
What I feel that SW lacks are Force users that are not Jedi. I want Episode IV Luke, a Force sensitive pilot, or a scoundrel like that one from the vydia. But nooooo, if Force sensitive you will wield a lightsaber sooner than later.
>>56859035Copy this, OP. This is really good.
>>56858794There were a couple comic series a few years back that didn't something you might look into. They took place in different eras (There was an Old Republic one, one for somewhere around the original trilogy, one over a hundred years in the future, maybe more than those three series, I forget) and they each had their own stoyline, but there was one bit (rakghouls) that run through all of them at some point, although it wasn't the "main" story for any of them.Just a thought. Sounds like you could really set up that kind of Easter egg though.
>>56860840Thanks
>>56859035I'm definitely going to use it for a portion of the storyline to give it a feeling of new direction

When playing with gold pieces = experience points in d&d, you eventually accumulate quite a lot of gold. What are the player characters to spend that gold on?
>>56861299Sex and violence.
>>56861299Building stuff. Castles for fighters, wizard's tower, churches, stuff like that. Hiring and equipping hirelings. Paying for expeditions to new places to adventure in when they bore of the place they're in now.
>>56861299As in the original DnD, castles. Land. Towers. Spellbooks. Research. Absurdly expensive magic swords.
>>56861299Expedition to get more gold.
If you're party has a habit of hoarding gold, have them be the victim of a really harsh robbery. (I had a night time Slaad attack on their boat) Its only fair that if you are walking around with half the GDP of a small city in gold that people are going to notice and become covetous. The adventure of getting back their treasure without any money at all was really fun, especially when they end up failing all their persuasion checks for writing IOUs over a meal.If the year realize they can lose it in coinage form they will try to secure it in property and assets etc.
Paying $50 for a snapcaster or any of these... Why is the proxying the only fun way to expierience MtG now?
>>56853656Nice try commie faggot
>>56854842Gold price is regulated by countries/states. Can you say the same for MtG cards? There is quite a big difference between these two, and even then the materialistic value for gold is inherently real as it's used for a lot of different applications and will have the production value any given day. How much do you think the materialistic value of printed cardboard is?
>>56852623>Why is the proxying the only fun way to expierience MtG now? It's not. Go be wrong somewhere else.
>>56853290

Where can I find more raypunk stuff similar to this?I'm starting a campaign along the lines of John Carter of Mars.

Introducing the WTG or 'what's this game'-sheet! A standardized template where we list both the facts, the positive and the negative of each RPG! The goal? To tell new anons everything they need to know about an RPG in one quick read, as objectively as possible. Above all, the sheet should be informative and useful.Go ahead. >Pick your favorite RPG and start filling in the sheet! >Always save as .png>Others will join in, elaborate and offer opinions. protip: "it's objectively shit" is neither a fact nor a very useful opinion.>We attempt to make the sheet as complete as possible, including various opinions of different anons>Try to stick to the essential and the useful, barring shitposts and ragestorms>The best sheets are saved for future use
>>56860722Dunno, how long can a campaign last before people start getting tired of playing Yahtzee? But yeah, in all fairness, a Dread game is usually a one-shot, with the possibility of all characters dying before the story is resolved. It only becomes a campaign when a second adventure is played with the surviving characters. There is no leveling system or anything either.
>>56860765Okay, I don't mind oneshots. I like this initiative by the way. I'm writing up mine right now.
>>56860923Thanks! I'm hoping this will gain a little momentum, but it might take a couple of tries.
It's a little unapproachable, I know. But I still want to inform people that this exists.

Hey /tg/, I'm starting up a third tabletop group as a DM, and want to do something more sci-fi flavoured rather than the usual sword and sorcery stuff. Unfortunately, I've got no idea where to really start. I've played a lot of games in D&D 3.5 and 5E, although I thought 3.5 was kinda sluggish and modified the hell out of 5E's rules. What's your favorite sci-fi system? Would you recommend any for a party that's got a mix between newbies and more experienced players?
>>56860995Also would like to know this. I'm planning a cartoony starship crew game soon.
>>56860995starfinder is pretty solid
>>56860995Rifts and other Palladium games all run on the same system, which is a trainwreck in terms of formatting and ancient rules, but damn if it's not fun. Rifts itself is a post-apoc science-fantasy Earth where full conversion heavy combat borgs team up with dragons to fight power armored nazis with feral psychic slaves that eat magic, and then both sides have to deal with demonic bugmen invasions and horrors that man was not meant to know.Mutants in Orbit, Rifts: Space and Phaseworld open up some more stuff for actual space adventures too.Eclipse Phase is a transhuman horror sci-fi game, players are special operatives dealing with all sorts of government and corporate factions, trying not to think about the fact that they're only copies of copies by now, their memories and attitudes easily tampered with by their employers. The Fantasy Flight Games version of Star Wars requires special dice, and probably several books, but it can be fun if you want to play specifically in that setting.
>The equipment of the average citizen soldier.>Spear or broadsword, oval shield, full helm, chain mail. Archers use longbows or crossbowsDo you think that would be too expensive for the average soldier? They are organized in city states.

I got a real big problem. I'm running a d&d 5e campaign for some discord friends but I ended up taking too many players. I'm new to being a dam so 6 players is a lot to handle. Any tips on how to deal with this?
>>56850178Have a party caller. Switch to group initiative instead of individual initiative
>>56850178Make sure to communicate with your players. If any of them are cooperative human beings, they're willing to understand your DM shortcomings and help if needed. That said, first time I ran was for 8 people, using pathfinder rules. I think they had fun? That's all that really matters in the end.
>>56850178Are you running it on roll20? If so then it should be pretty easy. Really you should just ask your players to be courteous and not talk over each other, whisper any question that isn't extremely pressing/important, and most of all to not talk over YOU. Use BIG monsters instead of lots of small ones when you can justify it to make combat smoother.
The biggest problem with being a dam is the ability to retain water. But I have faith, one day you'll even put Hoover to shame!

I'm looking into starting up an FLGS, with a lean toward Minis and TCGs.Priced out a number of things, but now I'm trying to get a handle on how various shops set up their events. Entry Fees/Rewards.Most of the competition is 20 minutes or further away from where I plan to set up, with the exception of one small store that no one likes and is tiny and cramped.
>>56849767>Most of the competition is 20 minutes or further away from where I plan to set up, with the exception of one small store that no one likes and is tiny and cramped. Please be in upper NJ.
>>56849767Are you sure 20 minutes is enough? Most people aren't going to live in your store, and FLGS tends to have a lot of loyalty. People are more likely to drive 10-12 minutes to their usual place than 8-10 minutes for somewhere new.>>56850940You can find players/people in the community who will do that for you, actually. I ran the DBZ tournaments at my store. Another guy does YGO. There's a girl that runs Pokemon. D&D Adventure Leagues was me and another guy. None of us are employees.
>>56861567Yeah, well aware that folks will drive and be loyal to their gamehall of choice.Friends all drive 40+ cross town to play Warmachine.20-25 is one that owns their own building, giving them enough room to have 80-100+ MtG prereleases that I've attended. They've got what is easily 1500-2000sqft as their main floor, with a few tables. That has a basement that has another 15~ tables, and they own the next building in the strip as well, giving them another 20 tables. They thus generally have at least two evening events a day.The one my friends drive to seems to be 2000sqft or so, with maybe 5 tables. But I've not been there personally.>>56858590Major Midwestern City, sorry.>>56854670>>56854895Seems like he did everything right, until he expanded, at which point he stopped doing things right.Comment too long.
