How often do you or your players forge their own nations and empires anon? I don't mean usurp or inherit a kingdom, I mean outright create one from scratch.

One thing you might try is have the looming threat be not just one BBEG, but an entire army of bad guys, and if you kill the leader they'll just replace him with a new one.

However, the local kings and republics are all apathetic to the threat at hand. Thus it becomes a matter of the heroes gathering their very own army to take down the BBEG and destroy his army.

And, after you've finally destroyed the BBEG and his army, there's all the lands that were occupied by nothing but oppressed slaves. You have an army loyal to you, a freed population loyal to you, and unclaimed lands that you've just liberated. Why not form your very own nation out of the dust and ruins of the old BBEG's horde?

You sound like a good DM anon, don't give up. I wonder how detailed the customization of a fortress like that would be? Drilling the troops, fixing up walls, assigning patrols and gate guards, etc.
>>
>>56855885
>honestly confused as to why they would want something
Yeah, your players sound like shitheaps. I love, though tend not to request, a base. But on the rare occasion I obtain one in a party, I am typically left to fluff it out and make it seem real. Once I was given bonus exp for fluffing it out really well in a manner the GM really enjoyed. The other PCs bitched and moaned.

Every attempt was made to bring them in to do side roleplay in between sessions. Myself and another did, we turned the keep in to a thriving hub, we invested time, money and effort and would you believe we were rewarded for it?

Some players are just shit, they should be dropped.

>>56853911
Prefer working up the ranks and trying to maintain it. Nothing like a good bureaucracy. Fun times of oath of crown.
>>

I wonder if oath of the crown still makes sense when you ARE the crown...

GMs/DMs out there, list some big flaws you have.

>terrible at improv. I need to spend a shit ton of time with plans and side quests in case the players get off the rails or I'm fucked
>I fudge rolls in favor of the players at times and it feels pretty cheating man
>I detest high magic and super heroic settings and refuse them
>I have some kind of autism where I feel like my NPCs are my children and feel odd about making them go in to a relationship with the players. I have no idea why, it's just a weird feeling. I still let them of course.

most of these I also have.

but generally:

>I stutter. I don't have a stutter in real life, but sometimes I just fucking start stuttering when describing stuff without realizing. This one I always feel as really bad but my players don't seem to mind as much
>Names. Names made up beforehand are fine, but on the spot somebody who just crept up is gonna be called Augustus Creeper and the guy they met on the bridge is going to be Larry Rivermeet. This one my players pick up on more readily than I'd have hoped.
>occasional railroading. I like setpieces and while I always resolve to just let them happen if they happen, I often look back and think: I probably pushed into that direction more than is seemly.
>>
I can't describe what things look like to save my life. This is true for me in rl too though. Fortunately I have some players hooked on my storytelling and I'm gifted mechanically so games still happen.

("Fortunately" - Have to forever GM though)
>>
Playing in games that use rules I wouldn't, or don't use ones I would, now bothers me more than I am willing to admit non-anonymously. The group I've been a player in for a year and a half now is great but I get the occasional itch to say "5e flanking is overpowered and invalidates a bunch of class and racial features, as well as making strength in numbers even stronger" whenever flanking comes up. And don't get me started on hitting allies on natural 1s in a different group that mercifully fell apart quickly. Level 1 is miserable enough as it is.
>>
>>56851793
>can't handle combat for shit, even with simple system like Barbarians of Lemuria or Atomic Highway
>don't know how to properly track initiative, HP and turns
>I just end up winging everything
It doesn't seem to bother my players as they don't notice it but I feel like it removes all the stakes from the fights
>>
>>56860366

Literally nothing about OFF! is a typical fantasy setting- "thinly veiled" or otherwise. I assume this thread is a meme and is merely here to start arguments over literally nothing, and I have just been meme'd by responding. This is why I saged it since it isn't worth a real reply.

Do elaborate on your point next time, OP, otherwise people will simply assume you're baiting by posting such a weak argument that seems contrary simply to be contrary.
>>
>>56860965
>Implying /tg/ would pass up the chance at biting on to bait, whether it's subtle or otherwise.
There was a guy who posted an empty fish hook and it still managed to get more replies than most threads that were trying to be on-topic.

This fucking place blows, nothing here but bait and generals.
>>
>>56860965
>Literally nothing about OFF! is a typical fantasy setting
Except for the setting being built around four elements, a corrupt queen who oversees a realm of chaos, the hero gaining magical artifacts named after the Judeo-Christian God, and the fact that you end the game by killing the creator of the world you reside in.

How long has this game been going?
>>
>>56858744
another player in that game here

It was our first real session. We started an encounter after building our characters together. Our plan was to make a "super hero team" because the GM said our campaign would be about a city defense. I THINK we're all based on characters and archetypes (not sure about Dohn).

As for Dohn, he only says "Hi, I'm Dohn," because Common is his second language and he's a little socially awkward and doesn't know what to say for certain situations, so sticks with "Hi, I'm Dohn."

seems to work for him so far.
>>
>>56861269
Cool.
Does he speak it with an accent?

How does the city seem so far?
>>
>>56853019
It was something that developped as the game went on. The party didn't know each other at the beginning of the campaign. The sorceror saving the paladin's life at the risk of his own played an important part in it.

Just started playing BRP 4e recently. Surprised at how easy it is to learn. I was able to teach it to a group of five with 0 knowledge on the hobby. I actually keep thinking I'm overlooking some rules or something I am used to slightly crunchier systems though

Couple of questions I guess just because:
Is there a GM screen for BRP? Or should I just find a suitable one from CoC or other?

Why is the core rulebook so damned expensive? Even the quickstart is pricier than I'd like for what it is.
>>
>>56862152
BRP 4e

Which is that? I only know of the big gold book.
>>
>>56860298
Someone’s salty that Chaosium told you how to run it successfully in the rules.
>>
>>56862649
I can't tell if you're being facetious, but I'm referring to the book in the OP image. I've always read it as "BRP 4th Edition." I believe the rulebooks came originally in box sets of RuneQuest or some such, and the "Big Gold Book" was the first standalone product, but like I said, I'm not an expert on this system.

What's /tg/'s opinion on this system?

I'm cautiously excited about it, because I like the idea of a dedicated cosmic/angelic/Gnostic system, which I don't think is done well in any other system.

They fight internally for centuries until they unite and steamroll everyone for awhile, until their lack of civilized culture (tent nomads as they are) sees them absorbed and broken up by the various cultures they annexed.

I'm thinking about running a post-apocalyptical game set after the eruption of yellowstone. I have grey planes, southern states forming a confederation, frozen northern states and a neo-apache empire in mind. Any ideas on that?
Are you pro real (native) american folklore or should there be no fantasy in your opinion?

I did this (Yellowstone Caldera Eruption) as a goto for pickup games. I’m not a fan of fantasy in my post-apoc.

Some things I did that I thought added a bunch -
Stole from Champions the notion of a destroying Detroit, allowing a rebuilt city resilient to natural disasters to the center of civilization.

US pop culture and brands bleeding into the local culture (Dorito as a viable surname for example).

Ubiquitous franchises off the interstate being moved into (for example, the gang of raiders claiming all Cracker Barrels as their turf.

Pretty much embracing American trash culture.

Is there a system that has magic where your caster needs to pick a theme (like fire mage, illusion mage, etc) and then stick with it without ever becoming good at other types of magic?

Why would you homebrew a shield based barbarian, instead of doing a fighter/barbarian hybrid or fighter-berserker multiclass?

Why would you use a mainly defensive item if you want to be a striker?

Especially if you want to be a brute force striker like a barbarian.

So are these guys actually Space Nazis or is that just a meme? They only seem like Nazis from a distance but when you research anything about actual National Socialism it doesn't seem like the Space Marines are even close, they're just fanatical.

Is any fantasy race actually like Nazi's or is it just always from a hollywood perspective?

And my exact time code didn't work.

Skip ahead to 3:17 and they'll talk about the Nazi elements incorporated into his design. Obviously it's more than "Dredd=Nazi commentary", but it's there, just as in 40k.
>>
>>56862279
Its also heavily based on Roman symbolism
>>
>>56862302
Yeah, the eagle is a fairly ubiquitous symbol, I'm painting with broad strokes.

A more concrete example would be 40k borrowing heavily from Starship Trooper's imagery, particularly in the early IG designs. The book was written by a guy with a hardon for a military state, and Veerhoven's adaptation poked and prodded at the fascist parallels so much that mouthbreathers assumed he was endorsing it.
>>
>>56862412
Hell it seemed like Veerhoven thought Heinlein was endorsing it.

>The Beast is an unsettling erotic game for a single player. During the play you will imagine engaging in sex acts with the Beast—an
alien and inhuman creature—and then write a diary describing your erotic encounters, your fears and your anxieties.
> The game is meant to be played over the course of 21 days. Every day you will draw a card with an event or a question and write down your reaction or answer in the diary. The cards are meant to stimulate associations and invite you to visit unusual and perverse regions of your imagination.

So, I randomly stumbled on this polish "erotic single-player card based RPG". The basic concept is that you're having a secret sexual relation with this alien/unnatural creature (what it is it's completely at your discretion, from rabid animal to hyper-intelligent gaseous alien life-form) and you pic a selection of cards (19 over 28, I think), draw one each day and then take fifteen minutes to write down something based on the card prompt. Which goes like, for example

"How do you make the beast orgasm?"
or
"What does the beast provide you with, apart from sex?"

It has probably spawned an unsettling amount Magical Realm fanfic-tier shit but hey, can't say I'm not curious about it.
Has anyone else heard of it?
And, do you think it exists somewhere on the internet? Seems like one of those things one woulnd't throw money at, but would check out if given the opportunity.
