Ok, trying to be open minded here about the whole riding-a-road-frame-off-road. Ya know, Cyclocross and Gravel bikes on single track or mild trails and overlanding stuff on 700c x <40mm tires It definitely has merit. If a heavy downhill bike sucks for uphill, and a lightweight XC bike is better, then a very lightweight road bike with dirt tires should be even better/ easiest to pedal uphill. So there's that. Easier to pedal uphill/ easier/ faster on the smooth flats.However what I'm having trouble with, is the descent and high speed corners. I raise and lower my saddle half a dozen times when riding, at each MAJOR change between going uupppp and going dowwwwnnn.So to bomb downhill, you have to hang LOW-Low-low with your ass hanging off the rear tire. Arms straight out, and standing flat on pedals, knees bent to absorb what the suspension and fat tires don't. For berms you really lay the bike down and rail that shit. This is what BMX bikes are best at. They have the absolute LOWEST center of gravity. It feels amazing man I hope you guys did BMX as kids.However with a road style frame, you're severely limited with how low you can go with he saddle height. Another reason why this is wrong. Riding a mtb @ ~40 psi is awful off road. I couldnt imagine skinny 35mm or 1.75" tires at >50psi. If you do air down AT ALL youre going to snake bite way more often or worse, bend your wheel.

Am I overkitted, /n/?What can I get that'd make sense and be useful / make me safer? I've considered doubling the lights on my bike with front and rear helmet lights. If winter gets cold, I could also get some rainproof trousers and overshoes (hi-viz of course).Btw, I cycle as commuting and errands every day. Every other day, I cycle for leisure.
Here is what I wear. I want to find some decent glasses with swappable lenses for different conditions (including low-light).

I always have 2 lights front and rear (top is seat post and bottom of seat post, and one at each side of the stem on the bars) I also wear a helmet light that works front and back. That way, if of some crap lands on their windscreen, it is less likely that what is blocking part of their view is blocking all your lights from either side. Also it is best to wear high viz jacket, and if you have pannier bags, put a high viz cover over them. If fhey are already waterproof it can t do any harm but acts as a large reflector on the sides.
A rear blinking red light and a front static white light is enough
