Film General Thread - darkroom printing for noobs editionOld thread >>3195996So I've been shooting film for about a year or so now and have been developing my own film for about 2 months. I've wanted to print my work for a while now, I just don't know where to begin. The only prints I've done are digital prints but they turned out horrible since my printer is a trashy printer/scanner combo from like 2009. There isn't really any room in my house for a darkroom so what do guys?Post photos! We want to see beautiful grainy goodness!>posting in /fgt/ doesn't make you gay, unless you don't develop your own film
Anyone owns a gw690? How do you feel about its size?I'm thinking of upgrading from a TLR.
>>3207551They're comically large, and you get 8 shots a roll out of them. Optics are incredible, construction is good. Ergonomics are pretty good, but they're large as I mentioned. Try and hold one before you buy one online, I ended up passing mine on because it was so large and used film so quickly that I barely ever took it out. I own a GS645 now, basically the same concept as the 690 but with a smaller negative and much physically smaller. I use it far more often, it's a great camera. The folding version of the 645 is quite a bit more expensive, but otherwise you can get one with the fixed 60mm lens for fairly cheap. Something to consider if a rangefinder is your go-to
>>3203464I just got into film last week and purchased my first film camera, i got a discount on kodak gold 200 and got three of them for only £7.50 [UK]. The camera i have is only a p&s film camera, it is a Pentax zoom-105-r. Whats the best advice /p/sensible answers please
>>3207579Get a roll developed and think of where you want to go based on the results. You'll know if your camera is in working conditions etc at that point.
Opinions on Foma paper? Just ordered a bunch of stuff, and decided to get a 100 sheet pack of Fomaspeed Variant 312 (which is the semi-matte RC paper) in 5x7" for my basic 35mm and half frame snaps. Went Ilford for my bigger paper size as that's what I've used before with good results, just switching from satin to pearl, because I felt I wanted more depth in the blacks I couldn't get with satin.I used 7x9.5" for everything but now that I'm through that 100 sheet pack, I think having a choice between 5x7" and 9.5"x12" will fit me better. Doing 6x6 on the 7x9.5" size felt too small and it was kind of big for quick snapshit prints on 35mm. What sizes do you other darkrooming /fgt/s use?

Hey /p/ help me decide between the Fuji 18-55 f2.8-4 or the 18-135 f3.5-5.6 as a travel lens to round out my lens collection. Currently I have the Fuji 23mm f2 and a Meike 35mm f1.7I really want the 18-55 for the wider aperture f2.8 but I feel I might regret not opting for the 135mm for the longer reach.
>>3207429Had 18-55 for awhile and was super disappointed with it. Slow AF and soft as fuck.Got with the 18-135. Better zoom range for travel too.
>>3207417are you saying objectively theres no image qualikty difference between a crop sensor and ff sensor?
>>3207577The difference depends on the lens, which Sony seriously lacks in APS-C.That is why posts like yours reek of Sony pleb.
I bought into the fuji meme and got an x-t1 and 18-55mm.Not super thrilled with it, feels like a toy. Debating switching to a 6D or some kind of nikon. What nikon is good around ~$700? Is 6D the best camera if I want to go FF around $700? I'll probably pickup a 50mm prime for now with whatever camera I get.

Good evening, /p/My busy season is slowing down so it's time to post some of the new stuff. As usual, it's going to be a mix of images from the past few months. Had a very busy summer and then had nearly 6 weeks of autumn between Canada, Colorado, and Utah. I'm going to start with a twilight shot from my last day of backpacking in Canada. I've found that Velvia 50 has a very surreal way of rendering this brief window of predawn light, and it only seems to work if you get up into high altitude and have a towering mountain that will catch the light at the right angle. This is about 30 minutes before the actual sunrise, and for just about 5 minutes there is enough light to pull off a Velvia exposure. After that window the sky gets too bright and washed out and then the mountain will get dark and lose the apparent side lighting. The result is about a 2 minute exposure that captures some of the true colors, albeit with a bit of a warm and purple shift in hue.[EXIF data available. >>3207425Lol okay then bud
>>3207208Methinks you protest too much. Photography as a living includes marketing in an equal amount to photography at minimum which of course is more worth than donations, e-book sales or even prints. You invest days in your social media for a reason and you know it pays off since you're out on trips where you can't post and won't gain interest. On /p/, your first few posts with new shots always make sure that you won't be mistaken for somebody else as people are too dumb to stick to the exif. At this point you already experience some hype around your person and story and get praise and polished feedback which you tend to ignore even if it's a good indicator, because you know, /p/'s tendency doesn't reveal keepers and sellers which are dramatically colorful shots. Days after, your threads are still bumped regularly with friendly answers too all kind of questions on which you are able to reference your keepers and social media. The truth is, Alex, you do live from photography and you aren't a saint.
>>3207507What the fuck are you talking about anon? Just go take some photos
>>3207414It started as a way to connect with the outdoors many years ago and grew from there. Photography has been by my side in nearly all of my best life experiences and firsts. My first time taking a long road trip was because of photography, then my first time backpacking as well. Backpacking is such an incredible experience and I'm glad photography encouraged me to get into it. You get to see rarely seen places and experience them in either complete or relative solitude.Part of what I like about it is that mastering photography is an unreachable goal and always gives you something to grow towards and better yourself and skills for. I will never create the perfect image and I will never see the most amazing place, those things do not exist in any objective terms so I must keep going forward enjoying every step, hurdle, and challenge. As far as the how? It took years to build my life to where I could control my experiences for the most part. If your goal is always to do better and travel more you'll find ways to make it happen. >>3207446I've always enjoyed the most simple of images like that one, and standing on the edge of a large body of water with seemingly no horizon was really surreal. I'll post an even older one from the plains that I always thought just worked. >>3207507I don't quite follow you, but I will agree that it always takes some level of whoring yourself out to make it as a photographer - or most businesses really. I have always enjoyed /p/'s criticism because it's real, otherwise I woudln't be here. It really does help with essentially a yes or no for each image, polling a variety of people with different tastes who all don't care about how they come across. From watching other people's threads it didn't take long to learn that you can't respond to shitposts or trolls, and sadly you can't even joke very much because there are too many different styles of humor and you're bound to make someone go sour.[EXIF data available.
