That one image of their CIC space reveals volumes about Chinese doctrine and procedure. They probably have a modest degree of competence, as long as everything works exactly as intended. You train like you expect to fight, those Chinese crewmen aren’t in battledress and protective gear. Their GQ stations are loaded with a ton of casualty-inducing extraneous gear. When the balloon goes up, China is going to lose an assload of ships for really stupid and preventable reasons. If the PLAN is that slipshod during a live fire exercise, they’re going to be a real shitshow when there’s real missiles inbound. A huge difference between the USN and the PLAN is USN ships have actually been fired upon, taken damage, and survived. The PLAN is a force on paper at this point. Give them a quarter century and some combat experience, they might become a noteworthy regional navy.
