A Funkie Junkie style Christmas Card

Posted in Cards, Compendium Of Curiosities Challenge, Funkie Junkie 12 tags of Christmas on November 29, 2012 by craftytrog

This Christmas card was inspired by The Funkie Junkie’s 12 Tags of Christmas No. 10. The challenge is sponsored by The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

I was inspired by Linda’s embossed brick background, although I embossed it plain, inked with vintage photo distress, then dabbed red pepper acrylic on the raised design. I also used Linda’s idea of a die-cut border & flower, with a fabric layer. My tattered poinsettia is cut from white sticky back canvas & also net, & inked with vintage photo on the edges of the canvas.

I have used Tim Holtz’s Reflective Imagery technique from page 55 of his Compendium of Curiosities, Vol. 2, to make my flower centre piece, as this is Linda Ledbetter’s latest challenge on CC2C.

The beautiful sentiment is by Tim Holtz also, stamped with coffee archival ink on a tumbled glass inked background, & I’ve added a little sparkle with some platinum stickles.

Gothic Christmas with Helen Chiltern

Posted in Cards, Hanging Art, workshops on November 27, 2012 by craftytrog

I attended a brilliant class at The Craft Barn on Saturday, run by the fab & talented Helen Chiltern. It was lovely to catch up with Helen, & other friends Susie & Karin… we had a really fun & inky day!

We used the new PaperArtsy Lynne Perella Christmas stamps, distress inks, rock candy crackle, metal, stencils, & Stampendous Frantage embossing enamels, to create a set of Christmas cards, mini Tando frames, & a Tando gothic arch wall plaque. Di Oliver from Tando had kindly created the gothic arches especially for the class, & they will soon be in the shops!

Here are the cards that I made…

Here’s the wall plaque. I really love this particular image!

Here are the little frames…

Here’s a closer look at one of them, to see the wonderful texture of the aged taupe embossing enamel & the rocky candy crackle, that we coloured with distress re-inkers…

75th Anniversary Celebrations & Stained Glass

Posted in Church Art, Stained Glass on November 25, 2012 by craftytrog

Today marked a very special day in our Church, St. Mary’s, Green Street Green, Orpington. Four years ago, a stained glass window was commissioned Β to commemorate the 75th anniversary, & after considering the cost of a window made by a stained glass artist, it was decided that we would make the window ourselves. The window is 3 metres in diameter, so not a small task!

I was blessed to be part of a small team of Church members to undertake the task, including our vicar Karl, Marina, our team leader who designed the window, Ruth, Jenny, Jean & Peter. It was something that none of us had any previous experience in, so we attended a couple of stained glass courses, to learn the techniques. Marina designed the window, based on Ezekiel 47, verses 1 – 12, The River From the Temple.

Making the window was a journey of prayerful faith for all of us, & with The Lord’s help, our window was finally finished and installed last week. It was unveiled during a special service today, & now I’d like to share our window with you.

This photo isn’t quite as sharp, but it shows some of the colours of the glass a bit better…

12 Tags Funkie Junkie Style – Week 9

Posted in Compendium Of Curiosities Challenge, Funkie Junkie 12 tags of Christmas, Tags on November 21, 2012 by craftytrog

I’m running a week behind with The Funkie Junkie Style 12 Tags of Christmas, but here’s my take on Linda’s Week 9 Tag.

I was inspired by Linda’s wood grain texture fade background, the stars (although I used Nestability Ironwork Motifs instead, that look like snowflakes), & I also added some burlap and an Adage Ticket, like Linda. As usual, this challenge is sponsored by Linda’s shop The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

I’m also entering my tag for The Compendium of Curiosities Vol. 2 Challenge 29, which is to use Tim’s texture fade techniques on page 64 of his book. I used the 2nd technique, which involves paint dabbers.

On my tag, I also used some of the wonderful embossing powders by Frantage, aged silver with a sprinkling of aged marine on the large motif & the top motif; and aged scarlet on the small motifs, & around the edges of my tag.

There’s not been much crafty stuff going on here lately, as it was my darling daughter Beth’s 18th birthday yesterday. She had a party here, on friday night, which was fancy dress. Beth wore a burlesque style costume, & here’s the cake that I made for her. Watch out for a peek of her card tomorrow πŸ™‚

Here is the birthday girl, blowing out her candles…

The next photo may shock some viewers, it certainly shocked my poor mum!!!

12 Tags – Tim & Funkie Junkie Style!

Posted in Funkie Junkie 12 tags of Christmas, Tags, Tim's 12 Tags on November 15, 2012 by craftytrog

Here is my version of Tim’s November Tag of 2012.

I made a Christmas style tag, inspired by Linda from The Funkie Junkie. I love the way Linda used a fabric flower, & coloured her burlap, so I added an organza flower layer to my paper rosette, & coloured my burlap with pewter distress stain. Linda’s challenge is sponsored by her shop, The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

The distress colours that I used, were faded jeans, chipped sapphire, dusty concord, & ripe persimmon. I spritzed my finished tag with pearl perfect pearl mist for some added Christmas sparkle πŸ™‚
