Gingernap Creations Colour Challenge

Posted in Cards, Gingersnap Creations on February 24, 2012 by craftytrog

The new Colour Challenge on Gingersnap’s Creations is to use only two colours. I chose to use my favourites, blue & green. I used forest moss & broken china distress inks, & a medley of different stamps. The card is for my friend Dave, whose birthday is this weekend. He keeps tropical fish & reptiles, amongst other things. I added some glossy accent ‘bubbles’, & also added some to the eyes of all the sea creatures.

Rock Star

My son’s a bit of a rock star & all round musician. He plays drums, guitar, keyboard & is great with the technical recording stuff too. In fact, he is studying at the Studio of Sound Recording in London, & doing really well there. Can you tell I’m a proud Mum?!

He left his teens & turned 20 on tuesday, & here’s the card I made for him. I used some fabulous PaperArtsy stamps, that were just perfect!

Wearable Art

Posted in Grungy Monday, Jewellery on February 22, 2012 by craftytrog

My blog’s been very quiet for the last few days, as I’ve been in stinky cold & cough land. Still there, but watching the fabulous Tim Holtz on QVC yesterday, inspired me to make these earrings for Linda’s Grungy Monday Challenge.

I used Tim’s patina technique with snowcap, stream & lettuce alcohol inks, on the brass stampings, then coloured the pearls with stream AI.

I just found out that I was picked as a Ginger Gem for my altered tin on Gingersnap’s glorious greens, which has cheered me up immensely!

I’ll be back tomorrow with my son’s birthday card.

Cherish

Posted in Grungy Monday, Tags, Tim's 12 Tags on February 15, 2012 by craftytrog

Tim Holtz has launched a new 12 Tags Challenge. He has decided to stop his 12 Tags of Christmas, & instead, he will be inspiring us every month this year, with his 12 Tags of 2012. HERE is Tim’s fabulous Valentine’s Day tag, which has inspired my Cherish tag. I have used some of the techniques that Tim used, to create my own design.

I started by stamping Tim’s flourish with snowcap dabber. Once this was dry, I inked my tag with various red distress inks. To blend them, I spritzed with pearl perfect pearl mist. I distress the edges & inked with frayed burlap DI. I stamped the flourish again in black archival.

I die-cut 2 sets of mini hearts, embossed them with a texture fade, then inked them with distress inks. I added some bling with rock candy distress stickles. The cherub image is from Tim’s seasonal paper stack. I distressed & inked the edges, & added glossy accents to the tiny hearts on the image. I inked the waste from some die-cut vintage lace & glued it to my tag as bunting. I finshed my tag with the Cherish philosophy tag, some beads, & some inked seam binding.

As this week’s Grungy Monday Challenge is to make a Tim-inspired Valentine’s project, I’m entering my tag for that too.

Here’s a close up to show the pearly shimmer on the background, & the sparkle on the hearts.

Love, Lace & Texture

Posted in Cards, Stampsmith Challenge, The Stampman Challenge on February 11, 2012 by craftytrog

I’ve combined another two challenges with this card. One is The Stampsmith Challenge, the theme of which is Love & Lace. The other is The Stamp Man Challenge, which is Texture.

The romantic image is by The Stampsmith, & I stamped it onto calico fabric, using Archival coffee ink. I inked the edges of a square cream card base with victorian velvet & vintage photo distress inks. I embossed a piece of  glassine paper with a texture fade, then distressed the edges & inked with victorian velvet. I added a layer of lace & a couple of strips of lace on the left side of my image, & finally some wooden buttons, 2 of which were coloured with paint dabber.

My colours were inspired by some of Lynne’s lovely artwork this week, where she used a similar combination.
