She lit up the red carpet at this month's Met Gala in New York which followed an appearance at California's Coachella Festival in April.

So it's no surprise Lorde is making the most of some downtime in her native New Zealand.

In exclusive photographs obtained by Dailymail.com the 19-year-old Royals hitmaker sports a flattering blue bikini for a trip to Ngarunui Beach with a longtime friend.

The songstress took a chilly a dip as she made the most of the last of the kiwi summer, letting the waves crash on her back.

Lorde's two-piece flattered her slender figure and featured cut-out detail on one strap.

The singer also wore her naturally curly locks loose for the splash-about.

It wasn't a solo excursion as Lorde was joined by her old schoolmate Tim Teesdale who was pictured having a snooze while sharing a towel with the Grammy-winner.

Earlier in the day the twosome sat on a log chatting as Tim donned a wet-suit to catch some surf.

The singer was seen in a white t-shirt and grey sweatpants as she clutched some headphones to chill out while her pal took his board out on the waves.

The Auckland-based star took to Instagram to share a photo of her friend sporting a wet-suit last week.

She wrote alongside the snap: 'Watching tim surf today from the backseat of the car. Tim has been my friend since we were 13. He's a nature wizard and a deep thinker, and he doesn't talk a lot, but pretty much everything he says is a poem.

She added: 'He also thinks most things I do are deeply uncool and, for that, I'll probably love him forever.'

Lorde, born Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O'Connor, is no doubt pleased to be rid of her arm cast which she had a host of fellow celebrities sign at the Met Gala on May 2.

In April Lorde performed at Coachella Music Festival.

She also joined electro duo Disclosure on stage to perform their hit Magnets.
