A man was shot outside the White House by the Secret Service when he brandished a weapon at a checkpoint on 17th and E Streets. Visitors wrote on Twitter that they saw 'lots of people with guns' after shots were heard. President Obama was not in the White House at the time, because he was out playing a round of golf at Andrews Air Force Base. Vice President Joe Biden was however in the building and was rushed to a secure area. The suspect, who was shot in the abdomen, was taken to hospital in critical condition. Secret Service officers were seen clearing the area and snipers were seen on the roof of the building. Press at the White House were told to 'shelter in place'.
