Ciudad de Guatemala, 24 ago (AGN). Hasta el momento el Ministerio de Agricultura, Ganadería y Alimentación (Maga) ha desembolsado 16,1 millones de quetzales para apoyar a las víctimas de la erupción del volcán de Fuego, ocurrida el pasado 3 de junio.

La mayor cantidad de recursos económicos, 11.3 millones de quetzales, que equivale al 70.2 por ciento del total, lo ha erogado el Viceministerio de Desarrollo Económico y Rural del Maga, según el Sistema de Contabilidad Integrada Gubernamental (Sicoin).

**La erupción del Volcán de Fuego en Guatemala el 3 de junio del 2018 dejó a más de 650.000 niños, niñas y adolescentes afectados en los Departamentos de Sacatepéquez, Escuintla y Alotenango. Más de 12,000 fueron evacuadas y 3,700 personas, entre ellas 1,434 niñas, niños y adolescentes, tuvieron que refugiarse en albergues.

Countries in the Lake Chad basin have come together to fight Boko Haram through joint military operations. However, there is a growing realisation that non-military strategies are needed to make sure these areas do not remain at the mercy of violent extremism. The Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC), with the support of the African Union (AU), is in the process of developing such a regional stabilisation strategy. Its success depends on closer cooperation between affected member states and their willingness to bring government services to peripheral communities.

This particular section of the Malakal runway, also laden with significantly-sized craters, had remained untouched by landing wheels and passengers since 2013, when the crisis broke out.

The European Union has provided €10 million for UNESCO’s initiative, Cash for Work: Promoting Livelihood Opportunities for Urban Youth in Yemen. The initiative aims to create jobs in heritage restoration and preservation for young Yemenis, while promoting social cohesion and resilience through cultural programming.

The initiative comes against a background of economic hardship, extensive population displacement, and heavy damages to infrastructure and heritage due to the ongoing conflict in the country.

20 August 2018. Hundreds of young people have taken part in first of a kind job fairs in Somalia as part of a week of International Youth Day celebrations in the country. The fairs were held in Galmadug, Hirshabelle, South West State, Jubaland and Puntland from 12th to the 16th August, and gave young people the opportunity to showcase their trades and products, with businesses and government officials providing information on internships, job placement, and career guidance in some states.

PHILIPSBURG, August 23, 2018 – Two new projects for a total of US$ 47.5 million in grants from the Sint Maarten Recovery, Reconstruction and Resilience Trust Fund financed by the Government of the Netherlands have been launched. The first project provides training and stipends to unemployed and underemployed residents in the wake of hurricane Irma and the second will help bring the Sint Maarten Medical Center, including a new hospital building, to standards that can withstand extreme weather events.
