The needs in Gaza are immense. Recovery will require a full-scale humanitarian response with all agencies coming together, including UNRWA, to provide lifesaving assistance to 2 million people.

Many children have been forcibly recruited by armed groups, stripped of their childhood, and girls face heightened risks of sexual violence, with disturbing reports of abduction and abuse.

Already dire humanitarian conditions are worsening rapidly, and access to these vulnerable populations is severely restricted by insecurity, roadblocks and the presence of violent armed actors.

This funding will enable needs-driven multisectoral assistance to newly displaced people, returnees and people living in front-line communities and parts of the country affected by hostilities.

Since early December, more than 120,000 people have fled the ongoing violence in Blue Nile, White Nile and Sennar states in Sudan, to South Sudan. Dozens of wounded required urgent medical care.

The ongoing cyclone season and powerful aftershocks have made recovery efforts more difficult, with key infrastructure severely impacted by the earthquakes, including hospitals and schools.

At least 40 civilians were reportedly killed in Kukawa's Dumba community on 12 January. This incident follows a series of attacks against civilians recorded in 2024.

Almost half the population faces acute food insecurity, more than 13 million people do not have sufficient access to clean water and 40% of health facilities are partially or not functioning.
