Quick as a bunny

I’m way behind in my blog reading, but I have a good excuse: my latest finish—

htw-patience

Designer: Hands to Work
Pattern: Patience 1898
(Stitched on Lakeside Linens 40-count Maple Sugar; used some recommended DMC threads, some substituted ones, and one GA Sampler Thread overdyed color)

Started this one on Wednesday and finished it Saturday. I almost didn’t start it because I wanted to hold out for buying silk floss for it. As you might remember, my favorite cross stitch store is two hours away, though, so in the end, I gave in to the screaming rotation and proceeded with mostly DMC floss.

I didn’t like the suggested DMC colors for the flowers. They were a brownish red, and I wanted a burgundy red, so I did a little further substitution. I also stitched the medallion between the letter Z and the number 1 with the red floss, which was GA Sampler Threads Old Red Paint.

Have been VERY fortunate to have lots of stitching time lately. Now, I’ve got to run. I hear another project calling my name . . .

How I spent my weekend

First, I finished this on Saturday:

ps-autumn-7

Designer: Prairie Schooler
Pattern: Book 66, Autumn Samplers
(
Stitched on Charles Craft 32-count antique white linen using recommended DMC floss)

I love how it turned out, though I admit, I’m thinking about removing the stem from the leaf halfway down on the far right. I framed my “Clear Moon” companion sampler fairly tight to the border (see it near the bottom of this post), and to do this same on this one, I’ll have to lose the stem.

Opinions?

Since I still had weekend time left after finishing my “Autumn Sampler,” I decided to stitch up this:

ps-deer-ornament

Designer: Prairie Schooler
Pattern: Book 83, Winter Samplers
(
Stitched on 32-count white linen using recommended DMC floss; substituted DMC 612 for pinecone)

This deer is at the bottom of the sampler that appears at the far right on the front cover of this book. I thought briefly about starting the whole sampler—and I may at some point—but for now, I wanted a quick finish, so I decided to make this ornament instead.

Did I mention how much I love having stitching time again??

Anybody got a rake?

. . . because the leaves are sure falling around here. Falling into place, that is. Here’s where I left off at my last post:

Check out my progress:

ps-autumn-61

Pattern: Book 66, Autumn Samplers
(
Stitched on Charles Craft 32-count antique white linen using recommended DMC floss)

I’ve managed to add all of the leaves in the border plus six of the large center leaves. Unbelievably, I’ve had a significant amount of stitching time for two weekends running!

[happy sigh]

I’m racing through this a bit before fall comes to a close in real life. The leaves in my yard have already fallen around here and we’ve had our first snow flurries today. Hmmm, guess I’d better start looking at some winter projects . . .

I’ve kept you waiting long enough

Allow me to introduce my latest finish:

lbl-quaker-bb-final

Designer: Little by Little
Pattern: Quaker Blackbird

(Stitched on R&R 40-count Crème Brûlée linen using recommended DMC floss)

Carol recently finished this pattern, too, and she decided to square off her border. I thought about doing the same, but in the end, I decided to keep the curve at the top. I may regret it when it comes to finishing it, but since I rarely get around to my finishing, maybe it won’t be a problem after all. 🙂

Time will tell.

Now, I probably should have gone back to my neighborhood, but it felt so good to stitch something up quickly that I talked myself into starting a new project. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves:

Pattern: Book 66, Autumn Sampler

Back in 1997, I bought the supplies to do all three patterns in this Prairie School book. I completed this one pretty quickly:

ps-clear-moon

Designer: Prairie Schooler
Pattern: Book 66, Clear Moon
(Stitched on Charles Craft 32-count antique white linen using recommended DMC floss)

[sigh] This is still one of my all-time favorite patterns.

I’ve had “Autumn Sampler” kitted up ever since, and while I’ve managed to ignore it for a while, all of a sudden, it started screaming at me. So even though it’s sat for eleven years (Oh, dear. That sounds terrible!), suddenly I couldn’t rest until I worked on it. Like, NOW!

Motivation is a good thing. I started this two weeks ago, and though I haven’t had much stitching time, I’ve still made good progress. Guess that could explain why my Google Reader stands in excess of 1,000 unread blog entries. Oh, I’ve made some random blog visits, but it’s going to take me a while to catch up on this backlog, especially if I keep abandoning you guys to go stitch.

I’m sure you’ll understand if I do, though.
