This is a tough one to review as it is nothing like I expected. Simon McBurney gets 5 stars but I'm reviewing the show. McBurney is a talented performer in this one man play, it is the story itself. Not what I would expect from a broadway show, definitely more of an off broadway production.
This it what I read and thought wow sounds great:
THE ENCOUNTER tells the true story of National Geographic photographer Loren McIntyre lost in a remote area of Brazil in 1969, which leads to a startling encounter that is to change his life. But it simultaneously plunges you into a visceral inner voyage. As McIntyre's mesmerizing tale reaches its climax, this extraordinary performance asks some of the most urgent questions of today: about how we live and what we believe to be true.
I don't like to look at play reviews prior to seeing one. I wish here I would have as I would have known what to expect.
