She's a mother of three with her estranged husband Ben Affleck.

And on Thursday, Jennifer Garner showed her commitment to children while testifying on Capitol Hill about early childhood education and poverty in Washington D.C.

The hearing comes just two days after the Batman v Superman star revealed social he was treated for alcohol addiction.

The 44-year-old, who is a trustee and ambassador for the Save The Children charity, testified in front of the House Appropriations Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education subcommittee hearing.

The former Alias star, who spoke for about 25 minutes, revealed that she's met families across the US and seen poverty first hand during her visits.

Jennifer said: 'I made a point to try and get out and do as many site visits as possible,' according to E! Online. 

The movie star continued: 'These children don't vote, they don't make political contributions, neither do their parents.'

She added: 'Somebody has to tell their story above all the noise. Poverty is silent, but I can't be.'

The star wore a sleeveless black dress and prescription glasses. 

 Her visit comes days after Ben revealed his rehab stint for alcohol addiction.

On Tuesday, he wrote on Facebook: 'I have completed treatment for alcohol addiction; something I've dealt with in the past and will continue to confront.'

Ben continued: 'I want to live my life to the fullest and be the best father I can be. I want my kids to know there is no shame in getting help when you need it.'

Adding that he hopes 'to be a source of strength for anyone out there who needs help but is afraid to take the first step.'

Ben and Jennifer are parents to Violet, 11; Seraphina, eight; and Samuel, five.

The two married in June 2005; 10 years later they announced they were divorcing.

According to People's sources, the actors called off their split and are working on a reconciliation.
