Angela Merkel gets a pay rise

The German chancellor will receive €18,388 per month in 2016, up from the current €17,992, following a vote by the German government. The French president Francois Hollande gets €179,000 a year - or €14,916 a month, for his functions. That's 50 percent more than his hairdresser, who is paid €9,895 a month.
