When I visit my sister in Atlanta, we eat good: Thai is by far my favorite. We also do Chick-fil-a and local steak house, and, of course, my sister’s excellent home cooking. She visited me on Saturday in Anderson. Her first choice? A delicious meat-and-three: The Meeting Place. Our mama trained us right.
Rennovation on Main Street — leads to fascinating tunnel. Or so this cute boy seems to think.
I couldn’t tell you which building is undergoing rennovation, but the entire front facade appears to be involved in the construction, expanding beyond the public sidewalk to the curb. A “tunnel sidewalk” is set up in front of the building to allow pedestrians safe passage around the construction site. Inside the “tunnel” is fun graffiti which the child looked at in wonder.
Hmmm…a new play? Sponsored by MTV? Elle Woods…. Does it have a nature setting perchance? Cathey graciously filled in this cultural illiterate.
MTV is filming a reality show “searching” for the star of the soon-to-be Broadway hit, “Legally Blonde, the Musical.” One of the contestants / actresses / finalists is Bailey, a native Andersonian! (She is also a former Miss Anderson.) She is one of ten talented women selected from thousands to compete for the role of Elle Woods on Broadway. I wish Bailey luck.
A cool thing is that ACT Theater wishes Bailey good luck, too: every Monday night. A large screen t.v. is set up just for the MTV show and Andersonians, dressed in Legally Blonde pink, gather to cheer Bailey on.
Downtown Sounds — Thursday evenings at the Anderson County Square. Under trees. Between the historic and modern courthouses. Though warm, the sun was behind a cloud and a pleasant breeze blew. Congenial atmosphere. Good music. Dancing. Folks talking and laughing. Even beer. It was a great night out. I felt like I had surfaced from my underground cave into light and sound. “They” say the economy is worsening, but an enormous amount of construction still goes on. Much of it in the area of Hwy 76 or Clemson Blvd., the main drag to downtown Anderson.
When I see the above erosin control measures, I always clench a bit inside, hating the sight of running red mud, hoping that the erosin barrier really does hold. It seems so flimsy.
I love aged wood, rusty metal, worn paths: history. Parts of Whitner Street are rustic gems. When I shoot a pic like this, I think of Dede, a local photographer I admire who captures some great aged elements. For a look through the above window, click here.
I was pleasantly surprised to see tomatoes offered at Fuddruckers this weekend. The produce section of the grocery store has been so empty without that essential summer fruit. I’ve been bereft enough to consider growing tomatoes of my own next year. From a tomato plant. In my backyard. That I have to water. And sprinkle with Seven. And protect from the dogs. Maybe tomatoes aren’t such a big deal. 🙂
