Wow Google, wow. Seriously this is amazing. If more people used it, it would honestly take over. You NEED to find away to make this app default to Android natively. Maybe enable SMS/MMS on it!! Overall, I'm blown away. Anytime someone will say, WhatsApp me or FB message me, I'm just gonna tell them to download Allo.

I was under the impression this was going to work like a true messaging app that works like iMessage. But when you send a regular text, they don't even come through the Allo app. There's not even an option to make it your default SMS app. Might as well have just kept Hangouts. Another pointless Google messaging app that won't be widely adopted by anyone. Update: Still nothing like iMessage. Pointless.

This app is really good, but no one is on it. All Google needs to do is add SMS along with RCS. Just merge this app with Android messages already and have an app that can compete with iMessage. It's so hard to get people to use this app and Google knows everyone is begging for SMS feature. Why Google intentionally hurt themselves escapes me.

This app is excellent! Google Assistant is a great addition and resource. For Android users, the Google services integrate very well and it makes functions within the different Google apps smooth and fast. And do not forget the end to end encryption, even within groups! The encryption aspect of the app has a timer that can be set for different lengths of time before destruction of conversations, or never if that is what you prefer. Highly recommend this app for a bit of fun and a lot of security!

As a standalone messaging app it's really good. Read receipts, expressive stickers, and Google Assistant are fun to use. But it's not very popular--I message basically just my brother on it, I can't even convince my girlfriend. It just splinters messages at this point. Having a desktop client or SMS/RCS backup would do wonders, hopefully sometime before the end of the year we'll get some good news

Google Allo is a nice try. But why not merge google hangouts, duo, allo into ONE single app???? It's so obvious!!!! Allo only works in a cell phone, think that we people have and use tablets or desktops in our daily life, Allo should be universal to any device. You Google Allo team, learn from Telegram and Whatsapp best features. I hope you get working to improve the Allo experience. Regards, Eric.

Can someone from google give me a detailed explanation why they dont allow this app to be the default SMS? I think I speak for most people when I say the app and the updates are great, but there's no point if you do not get people to join. Without the ability to make this the default app, others are not going to buy in. Pleeeaaassseee do this! P.S. hope the desktop client works well

It's not that hard this could be a Skype and iMessage killer if you inihrated a default messager and Google voice I didn't buy this pixel for nothing I want a amazing message app you need to give me one. What it has is not good enough this needs to be a one stop messenger like FB messenger please add the ability for just a email so people with ipods can use it too please

Disappointed... I've been using this app since it was released. Worked great, all the little additions to it are great. But recently, the notifications haven't been working properly. When I open the app, I'll get all my texts, but as soon as I lock my phone, I won't get notifications for them for hours, even if it's running in the background. This app is good for me because I live in an area with poor cell service but good internet, so I can text family and friends easily through it. But it's been working poorly recently and I'm really disappointed.

I love it, especially the Google Assistant! Such an smart app. It could be the best app if it had the web version, option of writing a short status. And I also do not understand why audio/video call feature is not included in this. Why do I need another app like Google duo for calling?

Thank you so much for developing an amazing messaging app like this. I used to use an app called MessageMe and was taken off the Play store once it was acquired by another company! This new Allo app is by far the best messaging app I've used. The added feature of the Duo button only makes it even better. Thank you Google!

I reallllllly do not like the way sent photos show up in chat. It blows up the image and takes up the entire screen. I really wish it was like other chat apps and displayed the whole image as a preview without taking up a huge amount of the screen. I also do not like how if you change the chat theme, it changes for both people. Me an my friend are constantly changing it back and forth and I wish we could change them individually.

Pretty please add sms integration and a tad more customization options. People don't seem to want to try a new messenger outside of "62" so I don't have many to communicate with yet. I strongly believe you could create a superior product for all around communication surpassing iMessage and 62 messenger. I love the custom stickers and private messenger. "mission impossible s+++."

I'd love to see RCS or SMS. That and a desktop client which I could use in a browser window. I have used allo since release, but I've been unimpressed with the lack of adoption by the masses. Honestly wish Alphabet would crack down on the disjointed chat clients and bring them together or at least kill off half.

I really like the app but I can't use it because nobody else does. Preload it on Android device and make it work like iMessage. If I send a message to somebody who doesn't have the app don't use the app preview message stuff just please send a message using my carrier number. I know the app can tell what numbers have an all accounts registered. I would use this as my primary if that was the case. It seems like you are so close to breaking the iMessage strangle hold. Just do it please. I want to use the app!!!

There is no "Chat Archive" feature, which would be much more handy. There should be a widget support on the homescreen for the incoming messages. The chat backup method for Google Allo should be just like the Google Hangouts way, everything on the cloud, user would never lose any chat and there is no need to give the app some separate time to back-up chats. But, I really like this messenger. It's because, Allo uses the least power among all the messengers around (such as WhatsApp, etc.), it's faster than every messenger, the ability to send high quality media and obviously, the main attractions of the app which are Google Assistant which is really handy and the smart reply feature which is very useful. And, this app could have been exclusive to Android users.

The app is intuitive and exciting. I'm a terrible texted because... Well it never felt engaging. Allo makes it fun, and the linkage to Google video chat app is extra helpful. The only pro is that sometimes Gifs or pictures make the conversation feel and look bulky, just because they take up so much of a phone screen. Nevertheless, I enjoy it thoroughly.

This app is a good idea, but I don't know why there isn't SMS integration. None of my friends use Allo, and it's really hard to convince your friends to switch to Allo if they are already using more popular app like WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger. If you guys added SMS integration, I could use it as my full time SMS app and this would also be a big competitor to iMessage and Facebook Messenger, both of which are absurdly popular and have SMS integration.

Google is not listening. I am unable to send multiple photos from my Gallary to a single people via share option. I have 150 photos in Camera roll but only 10 photos are showing. I am also unable to send single photo to multiple people. It has some smart features but it lacks BASIC chatting functions. 😡

I like this app, though I am left wanting regarding some of the experience while using the app. I wish I could make calls with it. I would love to have English translations on some of the stickers. Sometimes I have to close the app to get a picture to send. I would like it very much if the background theme were not jointly decided upon. Otherwise I have a lot of fun using it. The @lucky meme feature is hysterical!

Bugs in basics. My friend already have allo account and i have his same contact. But when he messaged me allo is showing the message recieved from unknown number and asking to add him to my contacts which i already have. Even if i added him to my contacts it is not being updated in the allo app and is still showing him as unknown contact.

Colourful apps, more fun if able to know how to use all the function. But complicated for new or prefer simple user. Try to minimise some not friendly functions or better outlook with simple and nice design. Try to get more idea from telegram, LINE and WhatsApp which still famous and good to use for whole world for better improvement. Keep it up.

The app is packed full of features that you can not use at all. Because it's a "VARY,VARY,VARY". Contain Garden. The way you have it set up is all party's must have the app not a bad thing if you are in my contract list. But what about a regular person or business or the local pizza shop sending a text my food is ready. like you can do with ever other messages app out there. It should have been baked in the G suite. Bam a better adoption rate. It have great potential but with out sms or nation wide roll out Rcs. this thing will never go no where. The thing about hangout it was able to connect with everything. Now that's a killer feature For app built like this. Smh

There are 3 simple features 1. SMS fall back. If I send a message to someone without Allo, the message gets sent via SMS. 2. A desktop client. Hangouts already has this, why not add it to Allo? 3. The ability to send from any device. Allo needs to be able to link my phone number with my Google account in order to allow me to use Allo on my tablet.

The problem with Google is that they don't listen to the customers. Obviously we want SMS integration.......wth is taking so long? Why was it not added from the beginning?? Reason why you'll always be behind Apple in messaging, reason why you'll keep losing customers to Apple. Messaging is obviously a big part of everyone's life and u still can't get it right smh. Come on its 2017 we're still text from Android like it's 2009

Google Allo is one of the best messaging apps on the market. For no cost it includes just about every feature you could possibly want, plus more, mostly fueled by their excellent background in software and the power of machine learning. All of this considered, it still lacks the deal-breaking feature that it cannot be made a default SMS app. As soon as Google works in the feature/blends this app with Android Messages, it will be my daily driver for sure.

My biggest concern is the inability to change the background. I have an OLED display and I like to have a dark background to save battery because I spend a lot of time texting and it significantly impacts my battery, besides the default background is too bright, it hurts my eyes at night. Can't make calls and Google assistant is not very useful either, it's fun, so I've used it a few times, buy I don't see myself using it regularly. Although I really like the stickers and reply suggestions.

I love the sleek simple design of the app but unfortunately it's not what I was after. I don't like that you have to use your mobile number to use this app, there should be options like email or username. I also don't like that it uses your phone contacts, the app should have its own separate contacts. Not very convenient at all.

Without meaning to sound like an app dev expert wouldn't it make more sense to infuse Duo into Allo and allow for a Google account sign in? Having Allo and being asked to download Duo for video calls just makes me think I'd rather stick with WhatsApp where it's all been integrated into one platform. Just a thought. Big fan by the way. Google is not Skynet.
