Banff National Park was established in 1885 as Canada's first national park. It is about a one and a half hour drive west of Calgary, Alberta, in the heart of the magnificent Canadian Rockies. Today the park consists of 6,641 square kilometres of mountainous terrain, with numerous glaciers and ice fields, dense coniferous forest, and alpine landscapes.
The Icefields Parkway connects the Banff National Park to Jasper National Park in the north.
