Dubout's wiki page gives an interesting tidbit: Philippe Soupault gave him his first book illustration commission.

These illustrations make me fantasize about a 50s or 60s Looney Tunes Quixote adaptation. [Update: as a commenter mentioned, some of them strongly resemble the work of Basil Wolverton.]
