Watch J.J. Abrams and Lin-Manuel Miranda perform the new Star Wars cantina song

3

One of the cute bits of trivia about Star Wars: The Force Awakens was that the cantina song featured in the film was written by J.J. Abrams and Hamilton mastermind Lin-Manuel Miranda — but you haven't really experienced their collaboration until you've watched them perform it live on the streets of New York. Today Abrams joined Miranda as part of #Ham4Ham, the tradition during which Miranda and his cast give short street performances to crowds that are unable to get into Wednesday and Saturday performances of Hamilton.

After Abrams "Broadway singing debut" was introduced, the filmmaker explained how he first met Miranda after a Hamilton performance and how it led to them working together. The song, dubbed "Jabba Flow" — Miranda explained that the song's lyrics are in Jabba the Hutt's native language — will soon be available to stream on the official Star Wars website and is now available for purchase on iTunes. The latter version will cost you 99 cents, but you can watch the live performance clip above all day long. And perhaps wonder, as I did, why it took you so long to notice that J.J. Abrams and Paul Rudd have the exact same smile.
