This how you know there's no writers of color on OITNB, they didn't braid down Sophia's hair before they put the wig on.

Justice system in action…

“Just in case you forgot why Black Cindy said “Black People can be racist” on #OITNB. Here’s a pic of the writers.”
As seen on Zellielmani’s Facebook page
I don’t watch this show - not a big TV drama watcher - but I have been following the recent conversation about the death of a black character (who I won’t name, no spoilers) at the hands of a white prison officer (same).
The way they handled that storyline - as an “accidental” death - is majorly problematic when in the same week we see the Freddie Gray trial where he was killed by “rough ride.”
SYSTEMIC RACISM AND VIOLENCE AGAINST BLACK PEOPLE IN AMERICA IS THE OPPOSITE OF AN ACCIDENT.
Racist killer cops are being found innocent by juries because of narratives like this, that cops are just trying to do their job and sometimes “people” get hurt.
OITNB, WTF?
Get some black writers on your staff YESTERDAY, and nobody should have to be telling you that! A major component of your show is the prison experience in America, where black people are disproportionately represented - represent them in your writers room!
Almost every black child faces difficulties because of racism. These books will help black children to live happily against all the odds!

Be advised that Twitter pages with similar names are NOT the same place.

They dscribed the father of the white child as an employee of a “tech company and a board member of the Chamber of Commerce” while depicting Deonne Dickerson, the father of the Black child, as an absent father with a lengthy criminal record.
Two similar tragedies, two DISTURBINGLY different responses from the public.
That’s how the media do their job
I’ve been struggling lately. I live in a relatively safe area with an almost minute African American community. After a year of Mike Browns and “Black lives matter"s and Charleston, I feel safest in my own space with my door locked. I share my apartment with my partner. My partner is white. Lately, when he gets in from his second job, he’s only been locking the lock that can be unlocked with a key and not putting the chain on the door. This happened about 3 times and each time I asked him to please put the chain on as well. I realized that maybe he didn’t entirely understand why I was so insistent on this, so the other night I sat down calmly and tried to explain about how we’re living in a world where people are going places and shooting people because they don’t like the look of them, that crazy things are happening literally all the time, and that the only thing I can control is my half of our little apartment and both locks help me feel safe.
We got into a stupid argument today and he goes “You compared locking the door to Charleston and Orlando!”.
I’m heartbroken that that is literally all he took from that conversation, heartbroken that I live with someone who is that out of touch, lonely that I’m supposed to be in a relationship with someone who I can’t even discuss things like that about, and crushed that he made me feel guilty for feeling the things that I do.
I can’t help or change the fact that I’m a black woman.
“My movie was exactly what they said it wasn’t,” Roland Emmerich told The Guardian. “It was politically correct. It had black, transgender people in there. We just got killed by one voice on the internet who saw a trailer and said, this is whitewashing Stonewall. Stonewall was a white event, let’s be honest. But nobody wanted to hear that anymore.”
The 2015 movie, which depicted the Stonewall riots in New York, featured a fictional white gay character, Danny Winters (Jeremy Irvine) as the lead who threw the first brick during the historic LGBT protests against harassment by law enforcement. The event is seen as the birth of the modern LGBT rights movement, and early reviews of the film skewered Emmerich’s production for historical inaccuracy and erasing the role of trans people and people of color, who reports say played central roles in the protests. Stonewall ultimately failed at the box office.
In an op-ed for The Advocate, Rev. Irene Monroe, who witnessed the Stonewall riots, remembers that the majority of protesters were people of color, because those were the customers who patronized the Stonewall Inn. In fact, “many believe the decision to raid Stonewall that fateful night happened because the police were increasingly incensed by how many LGBT people of color hung out there,” she wrote, citing how media erasure of this reality has been problematic in both the past and the present.
“Those brown and black LGBTQ people are not only absent from the photos of that night but have been bleached from its written history,” Monroe concluded. “Many LGBTQ blacks and Latinos argue that one of the reasons for the gulf between whites and themselves is about how the dominant queer community rewrote and continues to control the narrative of Stonewall.”
Emmerich’s most recent comments illustrate how he still has not processed how he is contributing to this erasure, even after months of protestations from LGBT people of color and the critical and box-office failure of his film. Prior to Stonewall’s release, a group of LGBT activists of color outlined the reasons for this outrage in another op-ed for The Advocate and explained why the gay director should be paying attention.
“We are angry because racism and transphobia continuously delegate us to supporting roles in history,” they wrote. “We are angry because racism and transphobia fuels the many voices that are telling queer people of color that a boycott of Stonewall is extreme and that we should be grateful a movie about the Stonewall riots was even made. We are angry because highly influential gay white men are amused and angered by our anger and resentment of how intersecting forms of racism and transphobia create movies like Stonewall.”
At the geographic centre of the continent, Shoal Lake 40 is a striking example of Canada’s colonial past and present and an opportunity for the federal Liberal government to show sincerity after all its talk about reconciliation. Dispossessed a century ago so that residents of Winnipeg could have a safe and accessible supply of drinking water, the members of this isolated First Nation have been under a boil water advisory for decades.
Nobody cares about the white kid who tried to steal a cop’s gun to shoot Trump at one of his rallies. Nobody is calling it an attempted terrorist attack. Nobody is calling it an attack on democracy. Nobody is posting his criminal record since birth. Nobody is threatening his family.
He was a one-off. A lone wolf. A mentally deranged kid. A nice guy. A quiet guy. Lovesick and autistic.
His name is not plastered on my facebook wall, his religion doesn’t matter, nobody cares what his friends think of him or what grades he got in school.
But oh, if it was black kid..
If it was a black kid maybe Donald Trump would’ve said something on his social media, instead he is silent.
If it was a black kid, the headlines would still be filled with hate.
If it was a black kid they might’ve killed him on the spot.
Are we gonna talk about it?

Every industrial and commercial centre in England now possesses a working class divided into two hostile camps, English proletarians and Irish proletarians. The ordinary English worker hates the Irish worker as a competitor who lowers his standard of life. In relation to the Irish worker he regards himself as a member of the ruling nation and consequently he becomes a tool of the English aristocrats and capitalists against Ireland, thus strengthening their domination over himself. He cherishes religious, social, and national prejudices against the Irish worker. His attitude towards him is much the same as that of the “poor whites” to the Negroes in the former slave states of the U.S.A.. The Irishman pays him back with interest in his own money. He sees in the English worker both the accomplice and the stupid tool of the English rulers in Ireland.
This antagonism is artificially kept alive and intensified by the press, the pulpit, the comic papers, in short, by all the means at the disposal of the ruling classes. This antagonism is the secret of the impotence of the English working class, despite its organisation. It is the secret by which the capitalist class maintains its power. And the latter is quite aware of this.

Local and state authorities have determined that Johnson’s death was accidental.
Police have arrested a 38-year-old woman in connection with an alleged attack on a Muslim woman in a supermarket in London, Ont., and charged her with assault.
The Muslim woman was shopping with her four-month-old son when she was attacked, according to police.
The woman was at the Superking Supermarket at 785 Wonderland Rd. S. at about 5 p.m. Monday when a woman she didn’t know began yelling at her for no apparent reason, police said.
The stranger spat on the Muslim woman, punched her several times and then pulled at her hijab and hair, police said.
“We don’t have a motive for the assault right now,” London Police Service spokeswoman Sandasha Bough said. “We don’t have any information that this is a hate motivated offence. In what you’re seeing and what you’re hearing and what was provided through social media Tuesday it would lead people to believe that. But right now we’re looking at it as an assault.”
The police department’s street gang unit will review the investigation once it’s complete. It will determine if the assault has elements of hate or bias, which could be used during sentencing, if charges are laid and the matter ends up in court.
Sooo me and my cousin are both in happy relationships. I with a black man and she with a white man. I’ve been with my college educated man for 2 years and we are planning on moving together at the end of the year. Athough he has been around for some time now my family does not seem as supportive of my move with him. They seem to be a lot harder on him since he lives with his grandparents. He is also an only child so there is the mama’s boy thing. However they seem to be gung ho about my cousin moving in with her white boyfriend of 3 months….she also has a 2 year old son from a previous relationship. Her current boyfriend is an uneducated white southern male who lives with his mother and her boyfriend. Our family is saying that he would be good for her and her son because of his strong family oriented southern ways.I honestly feel as though the fact that he is a white male gives them a sense of security in believing that he will be able to provide for my cousin and her son. I feel that they are harder on me and my boyfriend. Am I wrong for feeling some type of way?
