Did she used to be ok with taking money from you and suddenly changed her mind or has she always been really independent? If she has always been this way then I say drop it and travel without her this time. If she is suddenly uncomfortable with the idea then I would wonder if there was something else going on. What I hate even more are the people who let them get away with it. My old boss used to always side with the asshole, even though we were following HER rules about clients being late, not paying their bills, demanding meds without an appointment ( I work at a vet). It is so demoralizing to the staff when your boss doesn't even back you up. Now in comes my new boss, she does not back down to anyone. If a client treats us like crap she takes them into an exam room to talk about what happened. The asshole thinks he/she is getting their way. Little do they know we are printing out all of their pets records so my boss can hand them to asshole and tell them they are no longer welcome at our practice because they abused the staff. The look on their faces is priceless. Most of them immediately try to back pedal, apologize or say they were just "kidding". Really?! Calling our receptionist a fucking bitch because YOU are 30 minutes late for your appointment is just a joke? Nope, sorry get out.

It sounds like you might have a condition called Vulvodynia. You should go to a gynecologist and see if there are treatments that might be helpful. It may also be helpful for your boyfriend to learn more about the condition as well. I'm not sure how this will affect your relationship long term, but either way you shouldn't have to live in pain.
