I am delighted to see our peacekeeping leadership come together to take forward the Action for Peacekeeping [A4P] initiative. A4P is our core agenda for peacekeeping, endorsed by over 150 countries and organizations.
Our surge in diplomacy for peace is producing results. The peace agreements in South Sudan and the Central African Republic are examples of partnership and persistence.

Christian Aid has called for calm amid growing concerns over violence and insecurity in Nigeria, after the country’s General Election was postponed only a few hours before polls were scheduled to open on Saturday.
The shock announcement from Nigeria's Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in the early hours of Saturday morning, led to the two main political parties accusing each other of foul behaviour.

Women leaders representing four administrative areas in the Bahr el Ghazal region are demanding full implementation of the 35% affirmative action provided for in the revitalized peace agreement, saying they are currently marginalised and under-represented at all levels of government.
The women from Aweil, Tonj, Twic and Gogrial voiced their demands at a two-day interactive forum in Kuajock, where they discussed their challenges and role in the peace process.
The EU supports the efforts the G5 Sahel countries in the fight against terrorism, organised crime and any other threat to security and peace. The EU wants to reinforce its regional approach in the Sahel with the aim of supporting cross-border cooperation, regional cooperation structures, and, in this context, of enhancing national capacities of the G5 Sahel countries. Stability in the Sahel region is also key for European security.

In South Sudan, early and forced marriage has many devastating consequences: it increases girls’ risk of death or complications during pregnancy and childbirth in a country with one of the highest rates of maternal mortality in the world; it is one of the primary reasons why 76% of South Sudanese girls are out-of-school; and it puts girls at greater risk of sexual, physical and emotional violence.

Our research found that there have been at least 336 chemical weapons attacks over the course of the Syrian civil war – significantly more than has commonly been known. Around 98 percent of these attacks can be attributed to the Assad regime, with the Islamic State group responsible for the rest. Approximately 90 percent of all confirmed attacks occurred after the infamous “red line” incident of August 2013.
Mogadishu, 17 February 2019 - The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) today launched a three-year national strategy to enhance awareness of key FGS policy agendas and initiatives among the Somali people at a high-level donors conference in the national capital.
Known as the National Strategy for Public Awareness 2018-2021, the document will be implemented at the federal and state levels under the guidance of the federal Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism.

Vivian Poni, a 38-year-old mother of three, says she has lost trust in anyone in military uniform because to her, it signals hard luck.
“I am considering moving to a refugee camp in Uganda because we are still a long way to realise peace,” says Ms. Poni, who had hoped that the signing of a revitalised peace agreement in September last year would bring an end to war and usher in durable peace.
