At the current #UNGA session, held in New York, the #US president’s boastful claims that his administration is the most accomplished in the history of #America provoked laughter. Keeping it low yet audible, the world leaders laughed at him. Startled and rattled, as he appeared on the world podium, #Trump tried to laugh away the derisive response, and, this time, the notables laughed with him. Later on, Trump explained that they were laughing with him. At him or with him, the world was laughing. Trump was, for sure, overplaying his hand by putting forward the ' #isolationist vision' at an international forum like the #UN.
The laughter reflected many trends and shifts in the behavior of the world leaders towards the US. The most conspicuous is that the world is uniting against Trump’s isolationist vision as the US departs from the global commitments and engagements. The states are moving ahead with their national agendas without abandoning the slogans of #globalization and #internationalism.

US President Donald #Trump’s remarkable speech to the #UnitedNations this week was supposed to restate the new order #America has for the world. And all he got was a laugh. But it was an important speech, spelling out more clearly what everyone has known since January 2017 - his administration is dismantling what America has stood for since the second world war. Out goes the vision of a liberal rules-based stable world under #US leadership. What everyone heard is that the White House does not care much about allies or enemies, only what is good for the United States.
It does seem strange that American innovation, entrepreneurship and dynamism, which drew continuously on new talent, first from Europe and then the rest of the world, is now walling up its borders physically, legally and mentally. There are 40 million immigrants in the US today, representing 13% of the US population. Immigrants founded nearly one-fifth of the Fortune 500 companies, such as Google, Procter & Gamble, Kraft, Colgate Palmolive, Pfizer and eBay. Today, much of Silicon Valley feels like working in the UN: diverse, noisy and creative.

French President #EmmanuelMacron called for 'dialogue and #multilateralism' to resolve the world’s crises in a speech at the #UN Tuesday (Sept 25) delivered minutes after US President Donald #Trump blasted international 'interference' in policy-making. While Macron did not name his #US counterpart during his address, the focus of his speech - including highlighting the dangers of unilateralism that helped lead to the birth of the UN - centred on international dialogue and cooperation.

The Bloomberg Dollar Spot Index rose the most in more than a month on Thursday (Sept 27), which isn’t surprising given that the Federal Reserve raised #interestrates again on Wednesday. After all, higher rates tend to attract foreign capital. According to Marko Kolanovic from JPMorgan Chase , President Donald’s #Trump’s #isolationist #foreignpolicy is a 'catalyst for long-term de-dollarization.' Put another way, the #dollar is in jeopardy of no longer being the world’s primary reserve currency and all the benefits that go along with that, such as interest rates that are lower than they otherwise might be and the government’s ability to fund budget deficits in perpetuity.
That’s why Friday’s IMF report on global currency reserves is most likely to get more attention than usual. The IMF data will cover the April through June period, when the Bloomberg Dollar Spot Index snapped five consecutive quarterly losses and gained 5.02%. Based on that performance, it’s likely the dollar’s share of global reserves edged up from 62.5% at the end of Q2 but still down from the 64.7% when Trump took office.

#Hagel isn’t anti-war or #isolationist. He’s a liberal internationalist. No anti-war conservative should support him.

DONALD TRUMP’S FIRST 100 DAYS: THE WORST ON RECORD
Presidents are usually at their most influential in their early months, which makes that period a particularly important one for a presidency. Trump’s start I arguably the least successful first 100 days since the concept existed.
Even if you forget whether the President’s actions strengthened or weakened the country and focus only on how much he accomplished, it’s a spectacularly poor beginning. His supporters deserve to be disappointed, and his opponents should be cheered by how unsuccessful his agenda has been so far.
Trump has made no significant progress on any major legislation. His health care bill is a zombie. His border wall is stalled. He’s only now releasing basic principles of a tax plan. Even his executive order on immigration is tied up in the courts.
By contrast, George W. Bush and Ronald Reagan had made substantial progress toward passing tax cuts, and Barack Obama had passed, among other things, a huge stimulus bill that also addressed education and climate policy.
Trump is far behind staffing his administration. Trump has made a mere 50 nominations to fill the top 553 positions of the executive branch, as of Friday. That’s right: He hasn’t even nominated anyone for 90 percent of its top jobs. The average president since 1989 had nominated twice as many, according to the Partnership for Public Service.
The Trump administration is more nagged by scandal than any previous administration. No new administration has dealt with a potential scandal anywhere near as large or as distracting as the Russia investigation.
Trump has no clear foreign policy. Is he protectionist, as he appeared to be when starting a trade spat with Canada on Tuesday, or a globalist, as he appeared when backing off his criticism of China? Is he an isolationist, an interventionist or some alternative? No one seems to know, which confuses allies and does a favor for rivals who would welcome diminished American influence.
Trump can claim one success. He has named a Supreme Court justice who could serve for decades but by any objective standard he is a weak president off to a uniquely poor start.
