After the Storm, Alderney
A rainbow marks the end of a heavy hailstorm this evening at Corbletts Beach on Alderney. There is a rig in the bay that is probing the bottom for a channel to place a power cable for the tidal power project by Alderney Renewable Energy. I DID get wet  :)

As Google have now all but destroyed G+, with the"new Google+,   the MOMENT that they remove the infinitely  scrolling  "notification" page ( this one  https://plus.google.com/notifications/all ) then I am OUTTA here and will stop giving them FREE content.
PLEASE send feedback to Google asking them to keep that page, as it is the ONLY sensible way to see the hundreds of notifications I get. I have managed once before to get it restored.. but...
They also recently KILLED the old photo page where I organised my albums  - so this MAY be the last photo I post to Google.

Sunset over Fort Clonque on Alderney
The setting Sun peeks out over the top of the Victorian era Fort Clonque on the island of Alderney. The Breakwater, Alderney
This is the massive breakwater in Alderney. Built in 1847, it was designed to protect the British fleet within striking distance of France. the project was never completed as wooden sail gave way to ironclad & steam. It is 910m long ( originally 1471m but 540m was lost to the sea!)

Alderney
Just for a bit of context, this is the entire island of Alderney, seen as I flew in this week. This islands is 2 miles wide & 3 miles long, and is home to around 2000 souls. It has 1 Roman Fort, 1 medieval castle, 14 Victorian Era forts, hundreds of Nazi Fortifications, as it was a part of Hitler's "Atlantic Wall", a massive Breakwater (which you can see) built in 1847. It was home to the (now sadly extinct)  Alderney Cow, which apparently gave the best milk in the World. etc... etc.. etc... All a few miles from the coast of France, in the English Channel :)

The Rig in Corbletts, Alderney
Another view of the rig in Corbletts Bay on Alderney. It was testing the floor of the bay for the new "FAB" electrical cable for  tidal power. This was just after a storm. It moved to Longis Bay on the other side of the island the next day.

Hanging Rock - Alderney
The rock sticking out of the hill is called "Hanging Rock". This is seen from beside the causeway to Fort Raz in Longis Bay at low tide in Alderney.

Landing on Alderney
Arriving back on the island of Alderney,  we landed on the short grass runway, which is fairly rare. This gives a unique view of the  side of the island. here you can see the Cachaliere Pier  below the cliffs. This pier was used before the War to transport granite. It was blown up during the war, and is a ruin today.
