Two weeks ago, on the heels Chablis, I dropped by the Jura Region Tasting on West 36th Street. Twenty-three growers and a few hours there–within minutes, I wanted nothing more than to drink the wines of Jura daily. Situated between Burgundy and Switzerland, Jura is home to grapes like Poulsard, thin skinned and producing fantastically light ruby reds with earth, funk, red fruit, and skunk…I’d be pressed to ask for anything more.

Last week, with Ellen as my guest, I attended the Annual Dinner of the Wine Media Guild of New York, at the Four Seasons Restaurant. A 100-seat event open to the Guild, their guests, and to members of the trade, the menu of course was fabulous (though as a pescatarian, I opted for the “silent option”, or salmon, which was good but probably didn’t compete)–Crisp Farmhouse Duck with Plums, and Filet of Bison with Foie Gras and Black Truffles…And while there were sparkling wines provided during cocktail hour, for dinner, everyone brought a bottle to share.

Wines from Santorini
Sun poured through panes and lit the wines of ten producers from Santorini–Domaine Sigalas, Hatzidakis, Argyros and Gaia… Assyrtiko. Vinsanto. Lincoln Center, Alice Tully Hall. We walked the room and poured our glasses, lips-snacking over Jonathon Sawyer‘s eye-candy fare.
