Auditors criticise EU food waste

Around 88 million tonnes of food are wasted annually in the EU, with the amount to rise to 126 million tonnes by 2020 unless additional preventive action is taken, a new report from the European Court of Auditors published on Tuesday has said. The European Commission’s response has "decreased in ambition over time and the action taken until now has been fragmented and intermittent", the auditors said.
