MEPs back visa freedom for Ukrainians

The European Parliament's civil liberties committee (Libe) on Monday (26 September) backed a report on granting visa freedom to Ukrainian nationals within the Schengen area. The committee gave centre-right politician Mariya Gabriel the mandate to start negotiations with EU governments. Gabriel said that Ukraine had met the benchmarks set by the EU and urged the bloc to match Kiev's achievements in the process.
