Spanish PM strengthened by local elections

Spain's caretaking prime minister Mariano Rajoy was strengthened in his bid to form a new government by local elections in Galicia and the Basque country Sunday. His Popular Party (PP) kept an absolute majority in the Galician parliament. It lost only one seat in the Basque assembly, where the ruling nationalist PNV, a possible national ally, won two seats. PP's main opponent, the Socialist Party, lost seats in both elections.
