Prof. Dr. Wilhelm Krek passed away on 29 August 2018 at the age of 56. With him, the Department of Biology has lost a passionate and committed colleague, friend and scientist. We will keep Willy in our honor.

How yeast cells detect genetic infections

ETH researchers studying yeast cells have discovered a surprisingly located new mechanism for detecting foreign genetic material – whether from pathogens or environmental contamination – and rendering it harmless.

Genetic disease healed using genome editing

A team of researchers from ETH Zurich and the University Children’s Hospital Zurich applied a newly developed editing tool to target and correct genetic mutations. By doing so, the researchers healed mice suffering from a genetic metabolic disorder that also affects humans.

Jacob Corn has started his postition as Professor of Genome Biology at the Institute of Molecular Health Sciences at ETH Zurich as of 1 October 2018. His research aims to better understand and treat disease through next-generation genome editing technologies.
