Julianne Douglas grew up wishing she were Scarlett O’Hara or Kristin Lavransdatter. Undergraduate degrees in literature provided excellent cover for her voracious reading habit. When a doctorate in sixteenth-century French literature failed to quench her thirst for books, she decided to start writing her own.

Julianne’s first novel, the story of a Renaissance woman poet’s groundbreaking quest for publication, secured her representation. Her second manuscript, currently on submission, pits a female painter against an array of powerful adversaries at François I’s sumptuous court. Eager to reach readers who might not find Renaissance France as fascinating as she does, Julianne is currently working on a novel set in early twentieth century California.

Julianne has twice attended the Squaw Valley Community of Writers Fiction Workshop. She has been blogging at Writing the Renaissance (writingren.blogspot.com) since 2008, penning articles on sixteenth century history and culture, reviews of historical novels, and author interviews.
