September 26, 2018

How to use sour yogurt I’m a yogurt snob. The dahi (yogurt in Hindi) set at home should have a clean, fresh taste, almost (naturally) sweet. The overly sour taste in yogurt is a complete put off for me, especially when I want to have… [Read More…]

  • A simple salad with whatever was there in the fridge because I wanted to eat a light dinner. But then ended up eating a bowl of Natural’s Coffee walnut ice cream. Facepalm and back to square one 😕😕😕 Does this happen with you too?In my salad:
Shaved ribbons of red carrot (I avoid the yellow core)
cucumber
Yellow bell pepper
Rocket
Cubes of paneer
Tossed in...
- bit of whole grain mustard
-extra virgin olive oil
-lemon juice

  • Our kitchen garden in December --
Double beans, baby bitter gourd, rocket, red amaranthus, lemons and more!
  • I don't buy sarees online much because the feel and fall of the fabric is something I can never tell by looking at a picture. However, this Diwali I was browsing websites for sarees online, not being in the mood to go out and brave crowds.
.
This charcoal grey vintage floral linen from @ekdori was love at first sight. I bought it immediately and luckily it got delivered just on the day I wanted to wear it. Paired it with a crop top from Westside and @swarovski jewelery. I love how versatile this saree is- going from casual to dressy depending on how you choose to style it. I can see myself wearing this a lot.
Some of you asked about this lipstick shade from you earlier posts - it's a matte brown from Color Bar- D Surprise 89
  • New potatoes from Ooty are in season now and what better way to highlight them than in a potato salad—- no mayo, no hard boiled eggs, just a bunch of vibrant greens, herbs and spices. Even if you don’t have the exact greens or herbs I’ve used in my recipe (which you’ll find right at the top on saffrontrail.com) you can use your own substitutes. In fact, I would urge you to try it with small leaves of the seasonal sarson KA saag which has pretty much the same flavour profile as rocket or arugula.
.
Are you excited to try this out?🤩

Chai time with my plants this morning—
thankfully today’s session was not interrupted by the huge scary black wasp that’s forever trying to shoo me away from my own garden. There have been times when I’ve thrown all that I’ve plucked and run very fast to escape this flying monster 😡
Also, I managed to pluck one ripe lemon today.
.
In the pic, double beans climbers, baby bitter gourd and lemon grass flowers growing over 12 feet high. .

aroma
/əˈrəʊmə/ noun
noun: aroma; plural noun: aromas
a distinctive, typically pleasant smell
.
Son’s birthday, winter, Christmas, end of a year, all good reasons for December to be my favourite month of the year. The chill in the air, anticipation of rum soaked fruit cakes, warming fragrance of frankincense in the diffuser and the irresistible aroma of these cinnamon rolls baking in the oven...made even more indulgent with a generous drizzle of salted caramel sauce
.
Made big batches of this one on Sunday AND Monday —grab the much tried and tested recipe from my blog. Google “saffrontrail cinnamon rolls” -for the salted caramel sauce, the recipe on sallysbakingaddiction.com is my go to recipe every single time.

SWIPE for a closer look at these beauties 😍
