I went to the NYC premiere on Friday night (which was also followed by a Q&A with Judy and Lawrence, as well as Amy Jo Johnson!) and I thought the movie was fantastic. I was also starstruck by Judy and thought she was wonderful during the Q&A. It was definitely an exciting evening!

Ooh I’m going to look for this on demand! What an incredible experience that you got to attend the screening with Judy Blume herself! She is the author that got me into reading so Judy Blume will always have a special place in my heart.

I never heard of the book or the movie until you mentioned it. But now I definitely want to read and see it! Based on the trailer alone, I have a feeling I’ll end up crying a lot too haha.

Wow — I had no idea this movie was even in the works. In this day and age where almost every movie is based on a book, you really have to applaud Judy Blume for keeping her stories out of the theatres until she felt that it was right. And to embark on this journey with her son? I teared up too! You know, growing up, I was raised to believe that I was going to be a mixed drinks kind of girl when I started drinking alcohol. But since moving the US and trying out beers, I’ve found I’m hooked. I’m now that girl who will probably have a beer in hand in lieu of a mixed drink or some wine lol. Just putting that out there 😉 Great suggestions! I have to try Beer Authority sometime 🙂

Oh girl, I looooove craft beer. When we visit Colorado, we make a point of visiting the local craft breweries. Now I just need to find someone to go with me to these wonderful places you’ve mentioned because my friends are not beer drinkers! Haha.

I love this post because the event sounds amazing, the pictures are beautiful (as well as the people in them of course *winks*) and because it sounds absolutely inspiring. I love that it felt like I was up close and personal with the authors while I was reading it!

Awww — it looks like you had SO MUCH FUN! I’ve just started reading Shatter Me (I know, I know … so behind with all the bestest books!) and I am LOVING it. She has such a way with words that I want to copy down every second sentence into my book of favourite book quotes!!

Great post, Magan! As a long-time TLA member, recently-retired school librarian, and first-year book blogger, I appreciate knowing that bloggers & librarians understand their relationship with publishers & with authors. It’s win-win-win as long as we all get the right book into the hands of the right reader, whether it’s through a blog post, a book talk at the library, or an author signing at a bookstore. Let’s continue to be professional and upbeat in this together (and show folks that the stinkers who put ARCs up on eBay right after ALA Midwinter are the minority that we’re trying to re-educate). Oh, Magan! How thoughtful of you to share all of this with us! I will be driving in for BEA this year, my first time! Unfortunately, I am only able to go in for ONE day! and I have been so very nervous as to what I should wear, what to expect and where to go. Mostly I’m hoping to meet other book bloggers 🙂

Elena! You should definitely go to a conference! They’re a ton of fun and the networking is unbelievable. I’ve met some INCREDIBLE people at the conferences. Regarding the whole ‘look like a teenager thing’ – it really boils down to professionalism. I met some teenagers at TLA that acted more grown up than the adults did. It’s all in how you present yourself. Come to ALA in June, please? I want to meet you!!!

Ahh Magan, this post is SO helpful and perfect! I’ve thought about attending a book conference before but haven’t made the plunge yet since it requires plane tickets & hotels. I really want to go to one when I’m more comfortable with blogging but wasn’t sure about them in general. Your tips are fantastic, definitely bookmarking for if I ever go in the future. 🙂 Unfortunately, the “don’t look like a teen” thing can’t apply to me because I still get asked if I would like the children’s menu in restaurants…sigh. I also really love all the pictures you shared! I wonder what made you blush and you look lovely in all of them!

Christina @ My Life In Books - I absolutely love, love, LOVE McNally Jackson – I even got to meet Sarah McNally through a class in college! The layout in that bookstore is so organic and welcoming at the same time. Wish I was still in the city to visit 🙂
