Email Notification & Alerts for Azure Backup
Azure backup needs to have active notifications & alerts (via email) on success/failure. It's important that administrators know their backup is running or failing.

We are excited to announce the preview release of alerting and monitoring for Azure backups. Please follow the announcement @ https://twitter.com/AzureBackup/status/765586365509754880Thanks,

Longtime protection of Office 365 services
I Like to see Longtime protection in Azure Backup or System Center Data Protection Manager for Office 365 Exchange, Sharepoint services. Because today you have to buy a third party solution. There are a lot of Educational institutes around the world in the free edition of Office365 on the Campus Agreement, but backup, restore services of Office 365 is a must have. Think about backup and restore mailboxes, teamsites of Sharepoint etc. Best Regards, James

Add central administration capabilities to Azure Backup
Azure Backup should have capabilities to centrally manage multiple computers (backup schedules etc.) and automatic updates of the backup agent running in the VMs.

Add individual file/folder restore options
When backing up Virtual Machines it would be nice to be able to restore individual files and folders instead of the whole VM.

Support for Cold Storage
Cold storage offers a very attractive price point for infrequently accessed data. This could, assuming transaction costs aren't an issue, offer even better pricing for Azure Backup.
It would be super if we could get support for cold storage in Azure Backup.

Amazon Glacier
Microsoft needs to offer a service similar to Amazon Glacier.
With the same low prices for storing backups.
And add the advantage of integration with Windows Backup.Amazon Glacier is a secure, durable, and extremely low-cost storage service for data archiving and online backup. Customers can reliably store large or small amounts of data for as little as $0.01 per gigabyte per month, a significant savings compared to on-premises solutions. To keep costs low, Amazon Glacier is optimized for infrequently accessed data where a retrieval time of several hours is suitable.
193 votesThanks a lot for explanation dave! We understood that you are looking for a backup solution to work with glacier equivalent storage.

Azure backup of Azure IaaS VM to a different region
It would be ideal if we could push the Azure backup of our Azure IaaS Vms to a different region. This would give people a lot more peace of mind in the event of a datacentre failure.

Improve performance for backing up volumes with large number of files
"Estimating size of back items" can take several hours to complete. I have over 1 million files and It has been 6 hours now (backing up from an Azure VM to Azure Backup) and checking Resource Monitor I can see that it is only about halfway through reading the list of files to be backed up. Meanwhile CPU, Disk, and Network utilization (no throttle set) are all far below max utilization.
I can only hope this is at least just a one-time process...? But still it is way to slow.

Enable Full Backup/Bare Metal Recovery with Azure Backup Standalone (no DPM)
Enhance Azure Backup to be able to support Bare Metal Recovery, Full Image backups.
NOTE: This is without the use/requirement of DPM.
Please refer to the following UserVoice suggestion: https://feedback.azure.com/forums/258995-azure-backup-and-scdpm/suggestions/6874594-bmr-thru-azure-backup#{toggle_previous_statuses}.129 votes -
local dedup support
Support for locally attached volumes to dedup. I keep my hyper-V storage separate from backup storage and there is no way to implement the white paper recently release detailing using SOFS storage with dedup.
Please enable support for locally attached hard drive volume dedup

Automatically upgrade MARS via Windows Update
We have had frequent updates of the MARS agent in the last few months. The last update is required for accurate pricing based on the April 2015 changes. But there is little to prompt admins to do this. There needs to be automatic (manually prompting adds unwanted and unnecessary work) upgrades of the agents.

Add support for backup for exchange/sql server database on ReFS volumes
Following the best practices guide for Exchange on TechNet, you can locate the database files on a volume formatted with ReFS file system,
Unfortunately, Exchange and SQL Server databases can't be backed up by DPM from a ReFS volume (only NTFS works).

Able to backup Systemstate via Azure backup Agent (Without DPM)
I have seen similar idea's but I think the idea is not understand correctly.
We have a large environment with 200+ local sites all over the world with only 1 server per site. Most cases these are fileservers. with the backup agent it is possible to have a file backup but no system state backup. This means the server can't be fully restored in case of an disaster.
using DPM or Backup server will result in an extra server and kills the business case to use Azure backup completely. So please is it possible to include DR, BMR (system state)…
