Allow SQL Database to join Virtual Network (VPN)
I have Cloud Service with web/worker roles connected to SQL Database (web edition).
I also have Virtual Network with point-to-site client (P2S) connection, but I cannot connect to my SQL Database (web edition) via VPN (eg using SSDM). Instead I have to use internet connection.
IP address assigned by my ISP has short lifetime and is reset daily. This means that almost every time I want to perform Admin tasks, I have to log onto Windows Azure portal to change my IP address in the SQL database firewall (defining a range of addresses is not an option).
VPN would mean…

We will reach back out when we are closer to a preview.
Thank you,

Enable SQL Service Broker in SQL Azure
Service Broker should be available in Windows Azure.
648 votesToday we don’t have a cloud equivalent of SQL service broker outside of either service bus or SQL Server in a VM. I’d love to understand the scenarios that you have in mind. Please send me email at [email protected] if you’d like to continue the conversation.

MySQL and PostgreSQL as DAAS from MS (like an Azure SQL database)
MySQL and/or PostgresSQL as a DAAS from Microsoft or atleast please buy ClearDB.
I work for a University and we really need mysql/postgresql to exist as an offering from MS and not from a provider as we cannot always use the non MS offerings for Mysql for your systems . Our databases are primarly mysql/postgresql and it's not a realistic scenario to convert/migrate to Azure SQL. I Think alot of universities need this as a native offering in azure. The ClearDB solution is something that we can use but not for everything, for this kind of solution we really need…
547 votesThanks for your feedback here. There are a number of alternative DBMS available in the VM catalogue. I get that this isn’t exactly what you’re looking for (you want DB as a service).

Implement FILESTREAM for blobs into Azure Blob Store
Storing blobs in the database is fairly pointless when you have a dedicated blob store. Implement the FILESTREAM protocol to store blobs in a user's azure storage
503 votesWhile we understand the scenario here and would love to enable, this isn’t something that’s on the road map as of now, We will share more when we have an update,

OData Support
1. Create a new Database.
2. Check an "Enable OData data services"
3. Get a non-code OData service over the database364 votesWe have an early look at this feature on our incubation site at https://www.sqlazurelabs.com . Please provide us feedback on this feature by emailing [email protected]

Make SQL Column Store Feature Available for Standard Tiers
Please don't make column store indexes premium only feature. We can use column store in SQL Standard Edition so why here should be different? Premium features should be performance gains to existing features, not banning them altogether for those of us who can't afford the premium prices.
284 votesThanks for your feedback here. We are working to bring ColumnStore to the Standard service tier.

intellisense
Please enable intellisense on Azure SQL databases. We have had it since SQL server 2008 and seems crazy that it is not available on Azure.
248 votesCan you please tell me a little more about what you’re after here. Is it Intellisense while using SSMS and SSDT?

Azure SQL Database User Managment
Please add a GUI to manage the users and their privileges in Azure SQL databases.
244 votesThanks for your feedback here. Can you please tell me a little more about your suggestion here. [email protected]

Support staging/production scenario as in Windows Azure
This could be done with the future cloning technique or perhaps a more sophisticated one?
153 votesCan you provide some details of your scenario and what you would like to see in this area? Thanks.

Offer postgresql as a PaaS/DaaS service, not via a third party
First and foremost: I understand that anyone can spin up a VM and just put postgres (or anything else) on it. This suggestion is not satisfiable by that advice.
What I and countless others would like to see is postgres offered as a 1st class (by Microsoft) database as a service solution.
Right now the only DB could I confidently use on Azure is SQL Server. The third party integration of MySQL by ClearDB leaves a lot to be desired and indeed - it would be better if Microsoft in-housed an option for all the as-a-service DBs, just like RDS.
141 votesThanks for your feedback here. We understand the ask for additional DB engines including MySQL and PostreSQL.

transparency of database outages
support is difficult to get and to understand. My databases randomly become unavailable at times with no explanation as to the cause. Just not available and then magically its back up and running.
Why ???

Change Data Capture
Allow Change Data Capture in SQL Azure
It has been available in SQL server since 2008, the jump to SQL Azure seems logical.
114 votesThanks for your feedback here. We do support change tracking https://msdn.microsoft.com/library/bb933875.aspx can you please tell me a little more about your scenario?

Allow using Query Notifications with Azure SQL Databases
Please allow using Query Notifications with Azure SQL Databases.
In combination with OutputCache having SqlDependency set the Query Notifications mechanism should reduce web sites load and increase pages response time.69 votesThanks for your feedback, we have heard this request from a few customers.

Grant access to Azure DB via host name (reverse DNS) instead of IP address
Clients behind dynamic IP addresses are unable to make use of Azure DB for desktop and server application because I cannot know the IP address that their workstations might be calling from.
I can use DynDNS to maintain their external host name but good luck to anyone who wants to use DB sync or to direct access the Azure DB databases in this type of environment.Static IP is not available to many of our clients as they are in remote locations that only have 3G/4G coverage
59 votesThanks for your feedback. We are early in thinking for firewall improvements. We don’t have anything concrete to share at this time.
-
Allowed IP addresses 24 hour rule
Allowed IP Addresses must be configured in order to connect remotely to Azure Databases (and other services).
While working remotely, instead of having to create a permanent "allowed ip address", allow us to create an allowed ip address for a specific amount of time.
57 votesThanks for the feedback. This is something that we are considering.

Automatic Fail-over to secondary region similar to Global DocumentDB
Recently, Microsoft introduced a feature "Global DocumentDB database" along with "multi-homing APIs" which provides transparent & automatic fail-over to secondary database with no human intervention.
It will be helpful to have a similar feature for Azure SQL Database where users can enable Geo-Replication and will not have to worry about manual fail-over to secondary in case when Primary / master is unavailable

SQL Server for Mac
I need to work on SQL Server express locally because we are using SQL Azure as our prod environment. The problem is, I am working on my Mac. Is there a way to work around this without using a VM? Can you please make a version of SQL Server to run on Mac OS X?
53 votesThanks for your feedback here. We recently announced that we are working on a developer preview of SQL Server on Linux. Full details here https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/server-cloud/sql-server-on-linux.aspx
Nothing to share on a Mac version.

View & Edit SQL Server database data
In the old portal it was possible to view and edit the data of an SQL Server database.
This feature was very compelling to me, and I'd like to see the implementation of it, or at least a temporary reference to it meanwhile.
Otherwise I have to go back and use the old portal.51 votesThanks for the feedback. We’re working on a lot of great stuff and will continue to expand the functionality in the preview portal to match the full portal over time. You’ll see things like this become available over time.

Provide an online sql management studio. The default port is blocked by my Internet provider.
similar to https://onlinedemo.cerebrata.com/SQLAzureClient/ but integrated into https://windows.azure.com

Enable GZip/Deflate Compression of SQL Azure OData Response
OData's AtomPub protocol is very verbose. My calculations indicate that AtomPub multiplies Data Transfer Out bytes by a factor of 8.75. (See Querying OData.org’s SQL Azure Northwind Sample Data Service: http://oakleafblog.blogspot.com/2010/03/odataorgs-sql-azure-northwind-sample.html).
Despite the Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate header, SQL Azure OData responses aren''t compressed. I agree with this comment by Scott Hanselman - failure to compress OData responses is LAME.
41 votesWe think we understand the scenario here. We’d like more information on the scenario. Please send email to [email protected]
