A Day in the Desert - Deadly or Delicate

Visiting *Tucson, Arizona for the very first time, we wanted to see all the sights, so we made plans to go to the #Arizona Sonora Desert Museum. We had quite the group with us, from 3 - 72 years old, and all of us agree it was tons of fun.

We saw #desert plant and animal life, watched a show learning about more animals, touched a snake, and just had an all-around fantastic time walking, reading, listening, touching, and learning. Take your kids!

Though a #desert #land devoid of the abundant natural #resources often needed for #life to thrive, modern Saudi #Arabia has always been capable of #growth. The driver of this growth — #hydrocarbons beneath the #earth — mean that lower #oil prices hurt the #Saudi #economy, exacerbating other issues, namely its growing #population with high #youth #unemployment. Riyadh has also laid out lofty goals for the next decade and a half with its Vision 2030 policy to address some of the more pressing #employment and #public #spending issues. But the question now is what could hamper these #ambitions. And underneath it all is one of Saudi Arabia's main resource constraints: #water.

Desert waterfall

This was taken just east of Superior, Arizona this afternoon. We've been having some rain and there were some nice waterfalls near Queen Creek (this is a tributary to Queen Creek). This waterfall is right next to the road, and there is a wide shoulder there to pull off the road if you want to stop and get a better look or take pictures, and there is nothing blocking the view of the waterfall. Based on my experience, this is all very unusual. I've found lots of places where there would be nice waterfalls when it rains, but most are difficult to access and there is no place you can stand to get a decent picture and even if you do find a spot to stand, there will be a tree in the way. Really makes you appreciate the waterfalls like this one.
